S7-E16: Economic ViewPoint: 3 Continents, 28 Countries, Manufacturing Economies
Learn what is happening in manufacturing from East to West, across 3 continents and 28 countries, from China through the U.S., past the UK and into the EU. Is the global manufacturing economy going to sputter on for months, pick up or peter out? With some signs of weakness and other signs of strength, it is difficult to plan and confusing to comprehend. Tune in as Manufacturing Talk Radio show hosts Lew Weiss and Tim Grady either add to the confusion or clear the air in discussions with Chad Moutray, Chief Economist from NAM, and Senior Correspondents Chong Wang from China and Royce Lowe from Europe. S7-E15: 85 more U.S. manufacturing jobs lost to prison slave labor and this is only the beginning…
Join co-hosts Tim Grady and Lew Weiss as they continue to examine the relationship between prison slave labor systems protected by state or federal governments that compete with U.S. manufacturers which have stolen American taxpayers jobs and forced plant layoffs or closures. Hear from guest Michael Mansh, president of Pennsylvania Apparel LLC who used to have a plant in Kentucky which they shut down after Federal Prison Industries pulled away government apparel contracts, wiping out 85 taxpayer jobs. Unicor and state prison systems continue to take work away using unfair competitive bidding that few manufacturers want to take issue with for fear of losing other government jobs. S7-E14: Attica again… 45 years later, national prison strike in up to 50 cities and 24 states… listen to the uncovering of an unspoken national tragedy …. It effects us all……
Prison strike actions are anticipated beginning Sept 9, 2016 in federal, state and city prisons and jails, along with juvenile and immigrant detention facilities over the issue of forced slave labor allowed under the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution adopted in 1865 and vastly expanded under an Executive Order by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1935. Slavery has now expanded from punishment into a program to train inmates in skill sets to employ them after their release but is actually a major for-profit enterprise used by some of the biggest Corporations in America to obtain labor at hourly rates not seen since 1865, in direct competition with small and midsize manufacturers who have terminated employees, lost revenues and even lost their business to the prison-industrial complex. Listen at mfgtalkradio.com as Tim Grady and Lew Weiss interview Azzura Crispino, Media Coordinator for the Incarcerated Workers Organizing Committee who discusses the aspects of racism, prison slavery, direct competition with American manufacturing and the work stoppage action at dozens of prison and detention facilities across America where OSHA rules are not enforced to protect incarcerated slaves Learn more about your ad choices. S7-E13 Why The PMI Isn’t All That Bad, Even Though It’s Below 50.0 Unless…
Mr. Brad Holcomb, Committee Chair of the ISM’s Manufacturing Report on Business(R) presents his insights on the latest Purchasing Manager’s Index and why it appears to be “a breather” from the above 50 midpoint that signals manufacturing expansion unless, as Chris Kuehl noted economist with Armada Corporate Intelligence and Economist for the FMA, it is a harbinger of things to come as his Credit Managers Index may portend. Hear both sides of the manufacturing coin as co-hosts Tim Grady and Lew Weiss discuss how the industry seems to be doing and where it might be headed for the balance of 2016. S7-E12: 8 Ways a Divided Congress and White House Can Boost Manufacturing
Scott Paul, president of the Alliance for American Manufacturing sits down with Tim Grady and Lew Weiss to discuss 8 ways a divided Congress and White House can boost manufacturing, covering infrastructure, innovation, tax reform, China, Made in America, the opening of foreign markets, job training and energy independence. You may have heard these topics here and there – now tune in for one concise overview of what is needed and how the AAM and other organizations are pushing harder and more frequently to move elected officials from their page to our page on Manufacturing Talk Radio Learn more about your ad choices. S7-E11 Manufacturers Compete with Prison Slave Labor
Manufacturers are losing contracts to Unicor, GEO, Deptcor and over a dozen other private prison operators, unable to compete with prison labor rates, or not even allowed to bid on some contracts under an unfair system permitted under the 13th Amendment to the U.S Constitution and launched in 1934 by President Roosevelt with the creation of Federal Prisons Systems (FPI) also known as Unicor. The upbeat, flowery marketing language of these prison labor websites makes them sound as benevolent as Santa Claus despite underpinnings of longer prison sentences for non-violent offenders and a majority of inmates being black or Hispanic working for as little as 16 cents per hour. Hear about actual manufacturers who have lost business and been forced to cut jobs like Mickey Spooner, President of Allstate Office Interiors in Hamilton, New Jersey, or even been put at the brink of bankruptcy.
