That was having already beaten Saint-Etienne 3-0 at Old Trafford with a hattrick from Zlatan Ibrahimović on Thursday night. The second leg of that fixture is on Wednesday. Harry previews both that and the EFL Cup Final on Sunday, against Southampton.Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Marcus Rashford and Zlatan Ibrahimović are all discussed.Of course, we have our regular youth and loan round-ups as Man Utd’s under-17s beat Burnley 7-0 but it’s bad news for the under-23s who sit in the relegation zone of Premier League 2.Enjoy the show! Interview: Oliver Kay on new book, Forever Young: Adrian Doherty
The Times' Chief Football Correspondent Oliver Kay joins Harry Robinson in a special edition of the Manchester United Weekly Podcast.Predominantly, they discuss Oli's new book, Forever Young. It is the story of Adrian Doherty, once regarded as "the new George Best" and "better than Ryan Giggs". In one of football's tragic stories, "the lost genius" was forced out of the game by a cruciate knee ligament injury. He left football entirely as his former friends, the Class of '92, were lifting Cup after Cup and League after League trophy. In June 2000, having moved to the Hague, Doherty slipped into a river and never woke again. His story is a sad one, but as Oliver Kay is keen to remind us, Doherty was a unique individual and while it is a sad story, it is fascinating. After discussing the book, they briefly discuss Manchester United and how the club also now fit "the lost genius" tag, although in a different way to Doherty.Forever Young, by Quercus Books, is released on May 19th. Order it hereFind us on Twitter:Harry RobinsonOliver KayPodcastThanks to Oliver Kay for his time.
