(According to a New York Times article updated daily, there are 255 cases of COVID-19 in New Orleans per capita, making it among the highest infection rates in the US.)Matt's also passionate about the media's mishandling of the pandemic—he believes we're not getting the whole story. We also share feedback we've received from his first appearance, answer questions from listeners & give tips for how to position yourself for a better future by exploring different investment vehicles.

Ep 29Becoming a Man of Thought & Action with Joseph C. Wells
I wanted the first podcast episode of 2020 to be special. So I upgraded my equipment for an enhanced audio experience, flew to New York City and invited back on the show a listener-favorite. Joseph Wells' first appearance, Buying Time-Freedom Before the 4% Rule with Joseph C. Wells, was very popular.Since having Joe on in early 2019, he has become a prolific writer, developed an app called Blogcastr and was accepted into the Write of Passage Fellowship. Ep 25I Don't Want No Scrubs: Why You Should Live on 50% of Your Income with Physician on FIRE
My guest is Leif Dahleen, aka Physician on FIRE. He retired from medicine in August to live a bigger life.I was excited to have POF on the podcast for a few reasons. First, I've recommended POF's insightful blog, PhysicianOnFIRE.com, to several friends of mine over the years. He's been sharing a wealth of knowledge on personal finance, early retirement, medicine and other miscellany since 2016.Second, doctors are notoriously bad with money. In fact, The Millionaire Next Door author Thomas Stanley wrote that doctors are the worst under-accumulators of wealth (UAWs) among high-income professionals. But Leif's a contrarian. He took exception to the UAW moniker and became the change he wanted to see—then started blogging to track his progress toward early retirement.Despite reaching financial independence (FI) at age 39, Leif kept doctoring. Who knew "doctoring" could be used outside of baseball? I digress. Finally, at age 43, he hung up the scrubs, adding RE (retire early) to his FI.Now he's a FIRE'd full-time family man focused on content creation (last year alone POFire.com had over 3.5 million page views). He & his family also plan to do volunteer work in Honduras and travel overseas [POFO?].His travels have already begun—he recorded this episode from Guanajuato, Mexico. I was more excited about this week’s guest than any other. His name is Mr. Tom Abadie. He is the man who first taught me the values of discipline, preparation, and teamwork. As 11-year olds, he coached our team to a State Championship in Louisiana. When I was 12 years old, he coached us to a World Championship in 1993. In the locker room after the Championship Game, Assistant Coach David Pope said to our team, “This may not mean much to you now, but someday you guys are really going to appreciate this [Championship].” God was he right.Born in New Orleans, La., on December 15, 1948, “Coach Tom,” as I’ve always called him, grew up one of seven children. He attended Redemptorist High School, where he played basketball and baseball in the competitive New Orleans Catholic League. As a senior, he signed to play centerfield at Nicholls State University (pictured)—I would sign to do the same 30 years later. His college coach was Raymond E. Didier, who he said was a disciplinarian but fair man. When I played ball at NSU, we played at Ray E. Didier Field, which is now affectionately known as “The Did.”Tom is now retired. He invested diligently in his employer’s 401K plan while working in the oilfield for 43 years, including the last 15 years as a salesman for a New Orleans company.
