This One's For Dolly

Here at Mamamia Out Loud we wondered how we should talk about the devastating suicide of 14-year-old Dolly Everett. Would we be invading the families privacy? What could we add to the conversation?  How could we make a difference? But we realised when tragedies happen you need to talk about them.  To process them, to shed light on them and to try to prevent them from happening again.  To do this we rang friend of the show Rebecca Sparrow, a woman who talks to teenage girls for a living to learn more about what we can do.  If you are going through a difficult time and feel like you need help or just someone to talk to, please ring Lifeline on 13 11 14. Since we're a show of light and shade, we also discuss if women quitting there jobs is the right way to close the gender pay gap and why Kanye West is forcing Kim Kardashian to wear teeny tiny sunglasses. Like we said, we're a show of light and shade.Show NotesDonate to Dolly's Dream here. Time's Up For Coffee Colonics

We're baaacckkk. Happy 2018 Outlouders. What a year we are going to have. First things first though...we need to discuss the Golden Globes. Specifically the fact that Oprah may be running for President in 2020. Mia thinks it’s a great idea, Holly not so much. Plus, Jessie spent a lot of time at the beach over the summer break and she’s feeling a bit bad about her body, so we’re here to fix it. And can’t stop picking up your phone? It could be fixed with a coffee colonic. Jokes. Maybe. We might need to ask Gwyneth about that. BONUS: The Year That Was Marriage Equality

2017 was the year Australia finally decided it was time to make it legal for same sex couples to marry and to say it’s been a long journey is an understatement. Placed in the “too hard” basket by both Labour and the Coalition for too long, we began it might not ever happen. What followed was possibly even more controversial - a non-binding postal vote. But, we got there in the end and just this month the first same sex couple got married. The former Prime Minister Tony Abbott was the leading face of the NO campaign but his sister, Sydney City Councillor Christine Forster, became a powerful voice for change and she joins us to look back on the year that was. Merry Christmas, Outlouders. But please, don't even think about charging people to eat your festive lunch. That's the vibe from a Group Therapy question you really need to hear. Also, if you're wondering whether to break up or stay together these holidays - the answer could lie in a loaf of bread. And does Matt Damon need to just stop talking? BONUS: The Revolution Has Come For Don Burke

Ever since one of Hollywood's most powerful men, Harvey Weinstein, was exposed as a sexual predator who had been preying on women in his industry for four decades, the list of men behaving disgustingly has been growing at an incredible rate. Yesterday, thanks to the tireless work of some stellar Australian journalists - primary amongst them Kate McCLymont and Tracey Spicer - a big Australian name was added to that list. Don Burke. The now 70 -year-old was once the biggest name in Australian television. His show, Burke's Backyard spun off into specials, a magazine and a million lucrative events and appearances. He could do no wrong. But the rumours about his behaviour towards women never changed, he was, as legendary TV executive Sam Chisholm told the Fairfax press yesterday, 'a disgrace' and a 'terrible grub'. Kevin Spacey Is Problematic

Kevin Spacey came out and infuriated an entire community this week, because you can't hide sexual assault allegations behind a 'rainbow shield'. Is that what he was doing? And are we finally living in a world where there's 'zero tolerance' for sexual harrassment? Jessie is convinced that she has every right to question whether Sophie and Stu really 'found love' on The Bachelorette. But does she?  And, we have a hack that will help you sort out who your real friends are, and who should just be given a walk-on part in your life. You're welcome.   Show Notes Your host is Holly Wainwright with Mia Freedman and Jessie Stephens Your producer and editor is Elissa Ratliff The Director of Podcasts is Rachel Corbett If you are after recommendations you will have to wait until Friday's show.  Leave us a message on the Podcast phone: 02 8999 9386 or join the conversation on the Facebook page: Mamamia Out Loud And if you can spare a second, leave a review and rating in iTunes; it helps us massively.
