2017 Mexico Missions Trip Recap

The Bloody Bible

If you read the Old Testament it may come as a surprise to you that God hands out harsh punishments, demands sacrifices and orders the mass slaughter of a nation. The God of the Old Testament can come across as grumpy, unreasonable and even unstable. For many these acts of God cause them to question His character leaving them wondering if He’s even worth believing in.
But maybe what you’ve read or heard is not what you think. Maybe those bloody stories tell us more about God than we know. Maybe they tell us something about ourselves that we don’t want to see. Join us for a new message series called “The Bloody Bible” where we will tackle the bloody issues found in the Old Testament and discover what kind of God we really have on our hands – and what His actions really mean.
July 9 - Two Testaments: One God
July 16 - God the Punisher?
July 23 - Whats The Deal With Sacrifices?
July 30 - Did God Command and Commit Genocide?

Songs of Christmas

God is often silent but He is never distant. When God is silent He's often preparing us for something miraculous. That's what he was doing with Zechariah, an often overlooked character in the Christmas story. Zechariah had a part to play and a song to sing that broke 400 years of silence. Listen as Pastor Shawn teaches us how God uses silence to teach us to live with a greater sense of Hope.

Songs of Christmas

Silent Night, O Come Let Us Adore Him, The First Noel - you’ve probably heard and sang these carols at some point in your life. But before they were written there were some Songs of Christmas sung by some of the original characters in the Christmas story. At first glance it would seem that none of them had a reason to sing. They faced hardship, struggled with heartache and wrestled with promises that seemed too good to be true. But in the end their struggle, confusion and waiting was not wasted. God did something incredible that led them to respond with songs declaring the promise of Christmas as a melody that is still being heard today.

Join us for the month of December as we discover and learn from the original Songs of Christmas.

December 4 – Why Me?: Mary’s Song

December 11 – Hope is Here: Zechariah’s Song

December 18 – Watching and Waiting: Simeon’s Song

December24 – Christmas Eve - A Strange Way To Save The World

The Good Book | Part 4

When it comes to the Bible there is no shortage of opinions. Many claim that it's full of contradictions, that it's historically inaccurate and that it can't be trusted because we don't have any originals. They say that the Bible is just an invention of a bunch of people who wrote what they wanted and who stamped God's name on it to further their own desires and plans. For many these are just a few of the reasons why you can't trust the Bible.

We think those questions and claims are worth talking about and that's what we will be addressing today at Main Street Church as we continue our series "The Good Book." Join us as we look into whether or not the Bible can be trusted.

The Good Book | Part 3

The Good Book | Part 2

Have you ever had someone tell you that the Bible can't be trusted because there are so many Translations or maybe after you explained a verse to them they responded with the statement, "Well, that's your interpretation."
Why are there so many translations and how do we interpret the Bible? Those questions and more are answered in this message.

Some recommended resources are Erdman Bible Commentary and Dictionary and a NLT Study Bible.

The Good Book | Part 1

What’s the best book you ever read? What made it a good book? What caused you to recommend it to others? The reasons will be many. For some it was the plot for others it was the information. Some like a book for the action or the romance or the suspense. There are a lot of reasons that people give to describe a good book. But what about the GOOD BOOK itself? That’s how many people describe the Holy Bible? They say it’s good but often don’t know why or what’s good about it. That’s the question we are going to answer during this series.
What makes the Bible good? How are you supposed to read it? How are we to interpret it and does it make any difference when you apply it?
Click the link below to download the Bible Reading Plan.
