The University League at UW-Madison, founded in 1901, is celebrating its 125th anniversary. Initially a social group for faculty wives, it has evolved into a nonprofit supporting student scholarships and community building. The League has awarded over $2.7 million in scholarships since the 1970s, with over $166,000 last year alone. Membership expanded in 1992 to include all women and men, with the first male president joining this year. Richard Leffler, who got involved through his late wife Joan, now serves as program chair. Members connect through 18 interest groups and will celebrate the milestone at their annual luncheon on May 6th.
