In March 1955, Claudette Colvin, a 15-year-old Black girl, defied segregation laws on a Montgomery, Alabama bus, nine months before Rosa Parks famous protest. Colvins refusal to give up her seat sparked the Civil Rights Movement, leading to the Browder versus Gayle lawsuit and the eventual end of bus segregation in Montgomery. Today, her courage is honored with reserved bus seats in her name across the U.S.
