He built a successful career in the city, founding and editing The American Thresherman, a national magazine covering farming equipment and innovations. Clarke also played a key role in starting the Dane County Telephone Company and was a generous philanthropist. Madison honors his legacy with B.B. Clarke Park and Beach, and his historic home.
