Joe Kissell is back after a move to a new country with Take Control of iCloud, 8th Edition. There's a whole lot new in iCloud; Joe takes us through some of the features that are popular but not necessarily well understood, including why all iCloud syncing isn't the same, why you need to be aware of what happens when you turn features on and off in iCloud, and one iCloud feature that still isn't ready for prime time. Our discussion of what the MacVoices Live! panel of David Ginsburg, Frank Petrie, Jeff Gamet, Patrice Brend'amour and Jim Rea expect and want to see in 2022 finishes up with more on the Windows-on-macOS debate, the need for Apple to continually release new hardware updates, and why the iPhone release schedule has become a requirement rather than an option. Some final desires include Apple-branded monitors and routers, and better Apple documentation. The extended Siri discussion wraps up with a comparison to a very old (and fondly remembered) program. The next set of expectations and desires included why Apple needs to focus on a HomePod ecosystem or whether the existing iPhone/app is adequate, and how it has one key feature that may be an advantage or a disadvantage. Have an Amazon Echo? It may be able to do more than you think, but you would never know it. Next, the Windows-on-macOS debate takes center stage. Mike's love-affair for all things Apple began in his Junior High's Library playing Lemonade Stand on a pair of brand new Apple ][+ computers. His penchant for Apple gear continued to be nurtured by the public school system when, in High School, he was hired as a lab supervisor to help run the Apple ][e lab for his fellow students and their Print Shop needs. Then, further still, in college he often opted to help a friend with her Computer Graphics coursework instead of focusing on his own studies, but only because it helped get him closer to the Mac-lab.
