Show Notes

Count Casimir Pulaski, a Polish noble and military leader, arrived in America in 1777 to fight alongside George Washington. Born in Warsaw, he joined the military at sixteen and later led cavalry in Polands Bar Confederation rebellion. Inspired by Americas fight for freedom, he offered his services and rebuilt the Continental Armys cavalry during the Valley Forge winter. Pulaskis unit grew to hundreds of men and is credited with founding American cavalry traditions. He died in 1779 from wounds at Savannah, but his legacy endures with counties named for him in seven states and Congress declaring October 11th as Pulaski Memorial Day.
