In the Republican primary for Lubbock County Precinct three justice of the peace, Mary Hernandez and Traci Baxa are heading to a runoff on May twenty-sixth. Neither candidate received over fifty percent of the votes in the March primary, with Hernandez leading at thirty-eight percent and Baxa at thirty-three percent. Incumbent Frank Gutierrez finished last and will not advance. On the Democratic side, Marina Garcia won her primary with seventy-eight percent of the votes and will face the Republican runoff winner in November. Justices of the peace handle class C misdemeanors.
