Show Notes
In March 1836, during the Texas Revolution, Mexican forces executed over 400 Texas prisoners after their surrender at Goliad. Colonel James Fannin negotiated a surrender, expecting fair treatment, but Mexican President Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna ordered their execution. The massacre fueled outrage, hardening resolve at the Battle of San Jacinto, where Texas secured independence. A memorial now stands at the site, honoring those early sacrifices for Texas freedom.
