Show Notes
Amarillo Slim, a larger-than-life Texas gambler, born in 1928, rose to fame by hustling pool, running black market schemes in the Army, and building a fortune betting on various games. He popularized Texas Hold Em, winning the World Series of Poker in 1972, and crafted a cowboy persona to outplay opponents. Known for wild proposition bets, he influenced modern poker pros and inspired books, movies, and hustlers. However, a 2003 indictment for indecency with a grandchild tarnished his image. Slim passed from colon cancer in 2012, leaving a lasting legacy in the poker world.
