46: Former NYU Law Admissions Dean + Steve Schwartz on Law School Admissions
Discussion with former NYU Law Admissions Dean Christina Chong and Steve Schwartz on Law School Admissions, covering 2019 LSAT changes, LSAT addenda, and more. https://youtu.be/vTcCaP3-H7s 0:17 general law school application advice 4:51 law school diversity statement 6:38 law school addenda for low LSAT scores 12:09 2019 LSAT changes / digital LSAT 13:37 law school application timeline / applying to law school "late" with January / March LSAT scores 15:42 negotiating law school scholarships, mid-cycle updates 17:59 applying to law school with LSAT vs GRE scores 20:38 law school rankings and LSAT vs GRE, impact of rankings on admissions decisions 24:46 painting a picture with your law school application, not repeating yourself *** This is a discussion with former NYU law admissions officer Christina Chong and Steve Schwartz. Together, we discussed 2019 LSAT changes, trends with the LSAT being offered more frequently, the Digital LSAT, and the LSAT v GRE. We also covered law school personal statements, addenda, and diversity statements. (Christina works at InGenius Prep. Email [email protected] to find out more about working with Christina.) *** Some takeaways: * keep addenda short and sweet, not 7 pages, ~200 words for a low LSAT score * feel free to write an addendum whenever you like, even if it's just because the digital LSAT doesn't go well for you * don't repeat yourself in your application * lots of ambiguity about the future role of GRE, but doesn't seem as compelling as applying with LSAT * a school as popular as NYU doesn't necessarily obsess over rankings the way others might *** If you like these kinds of discussions, I've done several more on the LSAT Unplugged Podcast: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/lsat-unplugged/id1450308309 Also check out a big playlist of them here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLgOHAiSs08EZdFUmSJ5Kg81zWHocombvI LSAT Blog: http://lsatblog.blogspot.com/ Subscribe: https://www.youtube.com/user/LSATBlog/?sub_confirmation=1 ***

Redo them. Value is not to diagnose - it's to better understand. #2) Find more PrepTests aside from the numbered ones. Aside from the currently 86 numbered LSAT PrepTests, several are unnumbered. June 07, SuperPrep ABC, C2, Official LSAT PT with explanations, etc. http://lsatblog.blogspot.com/2010/07/lsat-preptest-list.html #3) Avoid fake practice tests like the plague. If a book doesn't say PT#, date administered, probably not real. #4) ID your LSAT weaknesses - even if the exam's unreleased, doesn't matter. Look at the most recent 3-5 exams, and they'll be the best indication of where you stand. #5) ID your LSAT weaknesses - don't just look at ones you get wrong. also anything you have difficulty with, down to two and guess - getting lucky, still wrong #6) ID your LSAT weaknesses - diagnose where problem is stimulus vs question stem vs answer choices, 1000 LSAT tricks throughout #7) Refine your LSAT review process - avoid LSAT traps #8) Look at what you'll do differently this time. LSAT schedule, LSAT resources, LSAT courses, etc. Not just random free stuff and LSAT forums. #9) LSAT study schedules - if you didn't take the time to learn the basics, start there properly, build foundation first. #10) If you did learn the basics already, ID weak areas, focus on those, and mix in a timed PrepTest or two per week. Don't stress about specifics. Timed sections, questions by type, etc. all good. #11) 1 month until March LSAT - if you've got the time, go for that. Otherwise, 3.5 months until June. Try to be done by June if you can.
