Living Independence for Everyone(LIFE) of Mississippi empowers people with significant disabilities to be as independent and fully involved in their communities as they can and want to be. It is a non-profit center for independent living and was created through federal legislation in 1992. LIFE has enhanced the lives of over 35,000 individuals since 1993, and have provided information to more than 170,000 people. No matter how old you are or where you live in Mississippi, LIFE can help. The Board members and staff live with the philosophy, nothing about us without us! Services are provided at no cost with expertise and commitment to make the lives of persons with disabilities better. Life offices are consumer-controlled, nonresidential, and community-based. Core services are information and referral, peer support, advocacy, skills training, and community transition. Guest Augusta Smith will share how LIFE serves as a model for empowering persons with disabilities.
