Former CHP Officer and Drunk Driver Charged with Murder in Fatal Freeway Crashes
A former California Highway Patrol officer and a suspected drunk driver face murder charges for the deaths of four young people in high-speed crashes on the six-oh-five freeway in Norwalk last summer. The officer, Angelo Rodriguez, was speeding without lights or sirens and hit a Nissan carrying the victims, then pulled over without immediately reporting it. The other driver, Iris Salmeron, was driving over 110 mph while over the alcohol limit and slammed into the damaged Nissan in the HOV lane, sparking a fire that killed the four inside. The victims survived the first crash but died in the second impact. Both suspects were arrested last Friday and held on four million dollars bail each, with prosecutors pushing to raise it to eight million dollars at Tuesdays arraignment in Bellflower.
