Gina Rushing Maguire, a long-time community leader, was named the 70th annual Woman of the Year in Long Beach by the Rick Rackers, an auxiliary of the Assistance League. The Rick Rackers, founded in 1942, focus on providing school uniforms to needy kids and have been recognizing top volunteers since 1955. Maguire, who has led numerous community efforts, including saving St. Anthony High School and working with the Junior League, Rotary Club, and city utilities, was celebrated by 19 of the 26 living honorees during Womens History Month. In her emotional speech, she thanked her husband and sons and shared her journey of service, including her husbands recovery from a brain injury.
