Thoughts to add:
- Take a Gap Year. Travel for as long as you can afford. At least 1 month SouthEast Asia backpacking trip with friends (or solo). Ideally 2-6 months. Get lost, meet people from around the world and explore.
Lines to tell your parents:
(Overall, keep it truthful, but you don’t need to crush their dream suddenly. Keep it open, you don’t need to say any ultimatums. They know it’s ultimately your decision - not theirs. Just let them know you’re not gonna rush it and take it slow!)
- I’m not ready to commit to that big of an investment
- I’m gonna take a year to decide what I wanna study
- I read that students who take a gap year get employed better
- I don’t have the $$ for college. I think it’s best to work for a year and look at some alternatives.
- College just doesn’t have the value it used to. It’s overpriced, and everyone had a degree. There are more cost-effective ways to get the upper hand nowadays.
- I’m currently enrolled in some online courses. When I finish those, I’ll look into what I wanna study.
