Bibhuti Bhushan Bandopadhyay (1894- 1950) was one of the leading writers of
modern Bengali literature. .
His works are largely set in Bengal with characters from rural life. His
best known work is the novel, Song of the Road (Pather Panchali), which was later
adapted into a film of the same name by Satyajith Ray. This story
is an extract from Pather Panchali.
