Here in 1 Timothy, Paul says something in a way that may often go overlooked. He doesn’t say, “I used to be a sinner.” He doesn’t say that at one time, in the past, a long time ago, before I became a believer … I was a sinner.” No, the language he uses is present tense. The apostle’s saying it’s true, right now. And not only does he declare himself to be a sinner – he even says, “I am the worst.” So, it’s tempting to wonder, “But how can he say that since he’s a Christian?”
