Things are getting crazy out there and not just our current political climate. Lewis has always liked the title of the play Idiot’s Delight and it certainly seems to be describing the times that we are currently in. As the world spent a collective moment watching The Super Bowl this weekend, Lewis has a message for the NFL and its almighty self-importance. Big game aside, each passing day seems to sound a red alert in our nation’s capital and though he might be able to give our Leader credit for one thing, that good will is dashed almost immediately with bad cabinet choices, dismantling of agencies, and the proposal to put his face on Mt. Chaos, it seems to be all around us these days and its pretty much the last thing Lewis wants to talk about though he feel compelled to. As Lewis records his first Rantcast episode of 2025 on January 6th, he’s reminded of where we were 4 years ago on this day. Over the years the US has seen its fair share of political unrest, so comparisons become quite inevitable. Right now it seems like people are at odds because the reality of what even occurred that day continues to to be in question. That “reality” alone might just be the lasting impression of what happened back in 2020. And the problems still persist as we grapple with continued homegrown terrorism with the most recent attacks that occurred in New Orleans and in Las Vegas. The unfortunate end to everything that’s happened to us since Columbine is the evidentiality that we are just filling the calendar with all the traumas we’ve experienced as a society. Lewis reflects on the closing of the West Bank Cafe in New York. After 40+ years his friend and owner Steve Olsen is closing the location. The West Bank is a performance space where Lewis began his career on stage. He tells the story about how he began there as an aspiring playwright performing plays and his evolution to a stand-up comedian because of the space Steve fostered for creative types to perform. Lewis just spent the weekend in Skokie, IL and while there he discovered Will's Place a great restaurant with an even better mission, so let him tell you all about it. Lewis is headed overseas, but he left the fans with a stellar episode of The Rantcast. It was a week of happenings, not just for Lewis but for the nation as we experienced not only the Solar Eclipse, but a large earthquake for a swath of people in the East. Lewis found himself in Arizona for a charity golf outing, still managing to see the eclipse. Was it the advertised 75% darkness it was advertised as? Maybe not. Unfortunately, the usual crazies bubble up with conspiracy theories around these natural phenomenon (of course). Other newsworthy events include the dreaded annual Tax Day and the death of OJ Simpson opens re-ignites old wars in what might’ve been the inflection point of a new way the media operates.
