Ep 256256: Academy Season One
[SFAS01]. We’ve backed our reminiscence of the season with a few samples from the gorgeous Starfleet Academy Season One soundtrack. We hope this will help capitulate you to listening to the album yourself without us prattling across it. jaQ’s most highly recommended track is “Chancellor’s Address” which truly shone that one time the Athena was exiting warp and we watched the wings retract. Stunning ship, stunning music …. … stunning cancellation. Thankfully, we recorded this before the axe fell, so you’ll hear us still full of confident hope for the future of this show with so much potential it inspires a tear at Voyager’s comic relief. Reminisce with us .. on a Wednesday, for once! We appreciate your patience and loyalty.

Ep 255255: Their Little Thing
[SFA110] At long last, Earl and jaQ` have reached the final episode of season one of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. Join us as we wander the edges of the Federation and try to make hurt little boys cry, and if we can’t just lock ’em up!

Ep 254254: Fingernail Regenerator
[SFA109] Maaaan it’s been hard to get this editing done. Please accept my sincere apologies; I’m under the gun at work! Please enjoy the show, and thank you for your patience! Another new episode coming later this week!

Ep 253253: Kaleidoprism
[SFA108] This week, Let’s Talk About Treks has two sets of memories and at least one emotional support play. Earl Grey and jaQ` D’Rino discuss Star Trek: Starfleet Academy season one episode eight, The Life of the Stars, in which Tarima returns, Tilly arrives with grief-counselor energy, Sam starts coming apart at the photonic seams, and the Doctor is finally dragged into some extremely overdue feelings. Along the way, Caleb decides to be emotionally mature for once in an episode so determined to talk about trauma, parenthood, identity, and growing up that it pretty much dares you not to cry. All this and more: come find out what sort of backdoor pilot we have here! Enjoy the Show🖖🏾🖖🏼

Ep 252252: Read the Labels
[SFA107] Hello! We’re a little late, so I’ll keep this brief: this episode covers Starfleet Academy season one episode seven, Ko’Zeine. Join us in a few days for SFA 1×08. Enjoy the show; see you soon!

Ep 250250: Flowy Dress
[SFA105]. Here in episode 250, jaQ` and Earl finally conclude their twenty-eight year journey of patience: He came back.

Ep 249249: Bone Dry
[SFA104] Interestingly, very little about this episode was Bone Dry — so why not come and find out what brought us to this title? It’s very relevant, for once, as jaQ and Earl stumble aimlessly through Starfleet Academy season one, episode four, Vox In Excelso. Any premonitions about what jaQ Darino might think of this very Klingon episode? Come find out if’n you’re right.

Ep 248248: Tron Neon’d Out
[SFA103] Earl and jaQ` are back with more stanning of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, having finally made it to season one, episode four, Vitus Reflux. Turns out it’s not a form of heartburn. We wander through the episode’s exploration of family and belonging against the backdrop of various kinds of competition. We get into character dynamics, particularly between Raimy and Genesis, discussing the balancing act of friendship and ambition. Earl notes that the storytelling and direction helps us examine the impact of co-ed environments on cadet relationships, while whimsical elements like the sport “Calico” serve to deepen our understanding of cadet life. Come on in the water’s fine!

Ep 247247: Orca in a Bathtub
[SFA102] Second episode of Starfleet Academy, and unlike much of YouTube, we kinda like it! Listen now to find out why.

Ep 246246: Deux Ex Programmable Matter
[SFA101] In this episode of Let’s Talk About Treks, we explore the premiere of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, focusing on Season 1, Episode 1, Kids These Days. Released on January 15, 2026, this debut introduces the audience to a new perspective in the Star Trek universe, featuring the journey of Caleb Mir, a gorgeous street-smart kid accepted into Starfleet Academy. We discuss the creative minds behind the episode, including director Alex Kurtzman and writer/creator Gaia Violo, while delving into themes of familial separation and the moral dilemmas of the Academy’s environment. Our dialogue showcases character dynamics, including Caleb’s interactions with mentors like Cadet Master Thok, blending humor with the legacy of the franchise. The episode also expands Star Trek’s diversity with a varied cast and incorporates advanced technology and engaging visuals. As we wrap up, we speculate on future episodes and the deeper explorations of identity and belonging within the series.

Ep 245245: The Prime Detective
[TPD001] This episode, with Earl away on Risa, jaQ` has invited The Prime Detective himself, Grayson, to come and chat about The Prime Detective, as well as a certain upcoming television series. The Prime Detective is a podcast that follows the strange new worlds where Star Trek and real life overlap. From cults and crimes to fame and culture, we explore how Trek and other sci-fi franchises have inspired, and sometimes interfered with, actual events here on Earth. It’s part fandom deep dive, part true-crime mystery, uncovering the ways our favorite stories escape the screen and into reality. In this episode of “Let’s Talk About Treks,” I engage in a deep conversation with Grayson from “The Prime Detective,” diving into the fascinating connections between science fiction and real-world events, particularly focusing on the iconic franchise Star Trek. Grayson shares insights into his podcast’s unique format—short-term documentary-style episodes that emphasize brief, impactful stories blending true crime elements with science fiction narratives. He discusses how his background in cable news taught him the power of brevity, enabling him to tell compelling stories quickly. We explore the genesis of “The Prime Detective,” where Grayson elucidates his passion for storytelling through the lens of true crime that resonates with Star Trek themes. He elaborates on how true crime narratives differ from fictional storytelling, highlighting the unpredictability of human behavior and the gritty reality of unsolved mysteries. Listeners are treated to exciting anecdotes, including an unexpected connection between missing persons cases and the world of Star Trek, illustrating the rich tapestry of narrative inspiration that exists when merging these genres. Come learn all about The Prime Detective podcast and why Grayson is an amazing addition to the Star Trek podcasting community!

Ep 243243: Why Are You In Here?
[TNG119] Earl and jaQ` enjoy another trip back home to the Big Fat D as Wesley walks through the Academy Horror House, and Remmick menaces the crew.

Don’t miss our Christmas Special, released earlier today — it’s a little nod to Spock vs. Q we hope you’ll enjoy. In this episode, we delve just a bit deeper into the tragic reality surrounding the events in the series, but mostly it’s just fun.

Christmas 2025 – Reality’s Fringe
[XMAS25] Merry Christmas Everyone! Here on Let’s Talk About Treks, we very much like bringin you a Christmas special each year. This year, I was thinking about Spock vs. Q, which is an audio play with Jon Delancie and Leanoard Nimoy that I highly recommend This year, I thought we’d bring you an update. We wrote a story where Trelane, most recently seen on Strange New Worlds, decides to have a nature-of-reality conversation with Spock, also most recently seen on Strange New Worlds. We converted this to script form, and, taking a cue from Star Trek: Khan, we did an edit: “Computer, delete the narrator” and fed our lines into some software that would mimic the voices of the actors. Many times. Many, many times to get the inflections as close to what we wanted and as cleanly as we could tweak, then pieced all of the audio snippets back together into the structure of the script, which was the image on the cover of the box for this little gift we made for you. A little music, some sound effects, an intro jaQ` made today, and violin! With our best wishes for you and yours on Christmas, Earl and I present to you: an audio short by the makers of Let’s Talk About Treks this is Reality’s Fringe
