Show Notes
Pouneh is a Board of Director advisor for YANA and we are blessed to have her on our team. As a stepmom, she has lots of experience in mamahood but when she had her own boys, everything changed. Originally from New Jersey, she says, "You can take the girl out of Jersey but you can't take Jersey out of the girl." As a Board Certified OBGYN, Pouneh has worked for years being the person who helps bring babies into the world but her entire care of mamas has changed now that she is a mom. Being pregnant and giving birth during her residency was close to impossible but she somehow made it through and all while her dad was diagnosed with a brain tumor. She looks back on that time in awe that her and her husband made it through. Because of her need to be more present, she reconfigured her entire work structure and became a traveling OBGYN where she travels for a week and gives rural OBGYN's a break and then is home for three weeks where she can give her kids her undivided attention (thus her best mama moments when she watches her kids experience the world). Her worst mama moment was when her little guy was so hurt that he threw away his painting and broke his little heart (who else can identify with that!). She is always honest with her patients and tells them that parenthood is literally "on the job learning." She also feels strongly about mamas finding and building their community. Motherhood needs to be a team activity!
