Matthew 15:8 says, “‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.” In this text, the Lord describes those who say the right things, may even appear to do right, but the truth is everything else about them does not add up. In this week’s study from 1 Samuel 15, Saul seems to have turned from his sinful ways but has not. Samuel knows this and isn’t fooled by Saul’s pretending. Neither is God. Lip service is not what Jesus wants from us, He simply wants our heart.
