A young student from Loughborough University, George Collyer, experienced a sudden cardiac arrest during the Cambridge half marathon in March 2024. Despite no prior heart issues, he collapsed near the finish line. Three NHS doctors, Dr. Greg Mellor, Dr. Ben Straughan, and Dr. Helen Nuttall, performed CPR and saved his life. George was treated at Addenbrooke’s Hospital and Royal Papworth, where he received a new cardioverter-defibrillator called the Aurora EV-ICD.
