Dominaria Commander Review... Fer Realz

E

Damn there are a lot of cards for EDH players that come to us from Dominaria! Andy and Kyle talked a whole bunch of Dominaria after the leak, because there was just a ton of stuff leaked. And considering the impact this set has on our format, how could they not talk about it. But here's the official review. Andy and Kyle break down the legendary creatures that stand out as competitive or fun new commanders. They also talk other cards that we could see make a debut in the format. If you're a commander player, you need to pay attention to Dominaria. But hopefully you didn't buy a booster box like Kyle and Andy, desperate to get that sweet, yet somehow unattainable Boros commander. Are you riding the new retro wave? You should let Protector 101 sweep you up with their beats. This episode has the song Late Night Drive from the Protector 101 album. Here's his Bandcamp page: https://protector101.bandcamp.com/ Big shout out to Mikey Patch for all our art work! Check his stuff out (http://irontree.deviantart.com/).

Firesong and Sunspeaker

E

Do you love Boros? Yeah? Well, there must be something wrong with you. But so does Kyle. He keeps smashing his head against that commander wall called Boros too. Andy and Kyle take a look at Firesong and Sunspeaker, your exclusive Boros commander you can only get with a pre-order of a booster box. Which, can we just all acknowledge how fucking lame that is. I mean, dear WotC gods, please keep making Magic: the Gathering. But this is a lame move. But keep making magic. But this is lame. But I love magic... Find out what cards Kyle and Andy both brought to the table for this commander that takes a new approach to Boros with a spell slinger twist. Oh, have we mentioned how awesome Protector 101 is? This episode has the song Lana from the album Neoncholy. Here's his Bandcamp page: https://protector101.bandcamp.com/ Big shout out to Mikey Patch for all our art work! Spell Slingin': Commander Themes

E

Some games aren't for the feint of heart. Sometimes you've just gotta challenge your best Little Finger and find out if chaos really is a ladder. You're probably more likely to get your throat cut, but if you love the view when you climb the ladder with instants and sorceries, this is the episode for you. Andy takes a dive into the commanders who are best suited for a spelling slinger strategy and takes a really close look at all the support your deck will need to just maybe go the distance. Spell slingin' can be an incredibly effective strategy if you have the guts and develop the eye for when to play your strategy. Be sure to support Protector 101. This episode flew in and out on the dark wings of his beats. Here's his Bandcamp page: https://protector101.bandcamp.com/ Big shout out to Mikey Patch for all our art work! +1/+1 Counters: Commander Themes

E

Kyle takes a dive into the far too broad realm of +1/+1 counters as a commander deck theme. Despite the presence of the size gaining counters in most colors, Kyle and Andy take a look at the color combos primed to take advantage of counters. They also explore the commander best suited to abuse +1/+1 counters. If you're using +1/+1 counters in your commander deck, it may be a good time to stop cultivating mass and start harvesting! Big fatties may prove less fruitful than combos and synergies. Listed to find out how Kyle and Andy are taking mass cultivating, +1/+1 counter hogging fiends and harvesting big benefits. Take action before your deck gets type II diabetes. Here are the resources that Andy used as he gathered info for this episode: https://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/the-game/commander-edh/multiplayer-commander-decklists/216372-ghave-guru-of-spores-now-with-100-more-combos https://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/the-game/commander-edh/199813-compiled-list-of-experiment-kraj-combos http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/ezuri-claw-of-combos/ https://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/the-game/commander-edh/multiplayer-commander-decklists/217233-vorel-of-the-hull-clade-counters-everywhere The intro/outro beats this episode are by the Home. Artifacts: Commander Themes

E

It's time for another series! Kyle and Andy will be spending a few episodes talking about some popular deck themes and some of the core driving principles in how commander players take advantage of and have fun with those themes. This week, Andy takes us into the bowels of his jank-ass pursuit of artifact doom-machines. Do you ever just want to build weird shit that nobody seems to understand when you play commander? Do you feel like you're explaining how bilateral kelilactirals to knuckle-dragging neanderthals when you realize you've won the game? Well, this is the episode for you. Listen as Andy talks about the commanders to use for an artifact themed deck and takes a deep dive into the wonky combos and interactions you can build when you go the artifact route. Here are the resources that Andy used as he gathered info for this episode: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/goblin-artifacts-11-08-13-1/ http://puremtgo.com/articles/budget-commander-slobad-goblin-tinkerer http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/daretti-the-degenerate/ The intro/outro beats this episode are by the Home. The Leak

E

Sooooo... normally we're not super into leaked material. We'd rather wait until a set is officially spoiled to talk about what might fit into commander. But with a huge chunk of Dominaria's shit not being secure--and with it being a "legendary matters" set--it seems like we just gotta talk about it. So here's our partial set review of Dominaria. We're diving into a bunch of the new legendary creatures and talking about who look like potential commanders, who fits in as support and what might be duds. We'll be back to talk more Dominaria when the whole set is spoiled. The intro/outro beats this episode are by the Home, track 12 from the Resting State album. Support his craft. Check out his music. We love him for being so gracious, as to let us use his tunes. Find his work on his Bandcamp page (https://home96.bandcamp.com/). Big shout out to Mikey Patch for all our art work! Mono-Black: Endrek, Kothophed & Ob Nixilis

E

Okay, okay, okay, we play a lot of mono-black. But you have been accepted to become one of us! Join the mono-black club. Guest Cameron joins to talk about Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder. Cameron is coming to the mono-black party for the first time with a bunch of thrulls who are ready to overtake him and the table. This deck will either infect you with ambitious thrulls or a mystery STD. Find out how Cam is abusing this token machine and the altar of death that is black. Andy closes out our mono-color deck series by offering a clever deck that could be piloted by either Kothophed, Soul Hoarder or Ob Nixilis, Unshackled. This deck is a master of death that you'll love to abuse. Mono-White: Heliod & Eight-and-a-Half-Tails

E

Have you been maligned? Does it feel like you're alone and everything has been rigged against you. Deep down, do you know you're better than everyone else? If that describes you, you're either Macho Man Randy Savage or the pilot of a mono-white commander deck. Andy and Kyle are here to help you be the cream that rises to the top. Their highly unanticipated mono-white episode explores the space that mono-white occupies in commander. Kyle techs a Heliod, God of the Sun deck and explains the combos that you'll need to go the distance with this surprisingly good, yet forgotten commander. Andy shares a couple different perspectives on Eight-and-a-Half-Tails. He first explains the hate bears route that our friend AP provided. Andy then explores a more defensive and opportunistic build that let's your opponents play, just not at your expense. Check out our decklists on our tappedout page: https://tappedout.net/users/LegendaryCreature-Podcast/mtg-decks/ Be sure to support Protector 101. His hot tunes graced our intro/outro, and we're stoked he let's us use his music. Here's his Bandcamp page: https://protector101.bandcamp.com/ Big shout out to Mikey Patch for all our art work! Mono-Green: Sachi and Seton

E

Is your playgroup lacking in centaurs or other magical beings who can take on equine form? Check out mono-green! Really though, Kyle and Andy continue their mono-color exploration by taking on green. What can mono-green do in commander? Kyle digs up an obscure snake shaman in Sachi, Daughter of Seshiro. Snake tribal? Hell no! But find out what you can do with Kyle's deck built around mana fueling shamans. And yes, his deck does have a neat centaur trick in it. Speaking of centaurs, Andy shows off how quickly green can advance your mana with Seton, Krosan Protector. This centaur is on a druidic mission to swim in cash… er… green mana. Listen to find out how Kylanous and Andanous are taking their mana to the bank to cash in some bomb wincons. And see how they approached their mono-green decks in different ways. Check out our decklists on our tappedout page: https://tappedout.net/users/LegendaryCreature-Podcast/mtg-decks/ The magical intro/outro beats are by the Artist Home, track 8 from the album Resting State. Mono-Red: Etali and Ashling

E

To burn or not to burn? That is the question. If you're looking to burn people in commander, this is the episode for you. Andy and Kyle discuss the niche that mono-red occupies in EDH and look to find out if they've got commanders that can go the distance. Andy takes on the new Etali, Primal Storm from Rivals of Ixalan. This mono-red dino is headed to the bank to see if you've transferred anything into his account. Find out what Andy is doing to make for a chaotic explosion of stolen wealth and turning opponents into comatose subservients. Kyle then dives into an older, perhaps forgotten legend in Ashling the Pilgrim. He explores how you can take advantage of this commander that has an itch to dial the third number of 911. Do you really want to be the last straw that convinces Ashling to set the building on fire. Check out our deck lists on our tappedout page: https://tappedout.net/users/LegendaryCreature-Podcast/mtg-decks/ Be sure to support Protector 101. Mono-Blue: Nezahal and Kefnet

E

Kyle and Andy are starting a new series, talking about mono-color commanders and exploring the possibilities when working within the mono-color constraints. Andy and Kyle talk about what blue provides for commander, its strengths and how its weaknesses may make it hard to turn very many mono-blue legends into viable commanders. Andy then dives into the dark depths and lays out his plans for using a brand new legend: Nezahal, Primal Tide. Can this commander go the distance in protecting us from the conspiracy to sap and impurify our precious bodily fluids? Kyle then takes a look at Kefnet the Mindful and whether this mono-blue commander's steep demands can be utilized to derail the plans of other players and shoot for the long game victory. Check out our deck lists on our tapped out page: https://tappedout.net/users/LegendaryCreature-Podcast/mtg-decks/ Also, big thanks to Protector 101 for letting us use his sweet beats for our intro/outro. Merfolk Commanders: Kumena and Derevi

E

Does it feel like your merfolk decks have been dinking around, worrying more about dinglehoppers and banded bulbus snarfblats? Just haven't quite been able to go the distance with merfolk? Kyle and Andy dive into the murky merfolk depths. Kyle explores the possibility that merfolk might do well with a certain bird wizard as the commander. Can Derevi, Empyrical Tactician help the merfolk take advantage of tap effects and get them advanced faster? Andy takes a look at what Kumena, Tyrant of Orazca to see what this new commander from Rivals of Ixalan can do. This may be our strongest merfolk commander yet. Check out Kyle's Derevi deck right here: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/kyles-derevi-merfolk-tap-dance/ And check out Andy's Kumena deck here: http://tappedout.net/users/LegendaryCreature-Podcast/mtg-decks/ Also, be sure to check out Dan Terminus' music. Andy's New Year Resolutions

E

We've all got resolutions to eat less sugar, go to the gym, talk to our jerk relatives a little more, and whatever other unpleasant things we've decided we should subject ourselves to this year. But what about Magic: the Gathering resolutions? Andy's got a few lesser used cards to try out in commander this year. And like any good resolution, some of these may be hard to stick by. But there could also be a few gems worth trying out. I mean, just listen to this damn episode while you wait for all the reviews of Rivals of Ixalan to start hitting the interwebs. Follow us on Twitter: @legend_creature (or don't, that's cool too) Give some love to the artist Home. He let's us use his music for intros and outros and he's got some cool music that'll impress your special lady friends with how obscure and cool your taste is. Dear Simone: Exploring Queen Marchesa

E

Shout out to Simone for sending his deck for Andy and Kyle to check out. Andy and Kyle take a look at Simone's Queen Marchesa deck. All too often we all have high hopes for our commander decks and they don't quite perform like we envisioned. Simone is looking for ideas, like all of us in that situation. Kyle and Andy explore the process of tweaking a deck that has a variety of possibilities like Queen Marchesa. Kyle goes through a pressure build that would be more suited for an aggro light play group. While Andy shares how Queen Marchesa can be built to cut the throats of opponents that were expecting to cut yours with their aggro decks. Here's Simone's deck list: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/02-10-17-marchesa-wip/ And here's Kyle's pressure version: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/kyles-queen-marchesa-pressure/ Find Andy's deck on our TappedOut page coming soon (http://tappedout.net/users/LegendaryCreature-Podcast/mtg-decks/). Chainer: There's a Mono-Black Player in Everyone

E

Everything dies and is reborn. Only to die again. You know that there's a part of you as a magic player that wants to get everything back from the graveyard, just so you can use it and kill it again. Andy and Kyle bring in AP from their play group to talk about his Chainer, Dementia Master deck. He takes us for a midnight stroll through the graveyard and shares what he's planning on doing with death in his deck. If you're a player looking for a mono-black deck possibility, don't overlook Chainer. This oft-forgotten commander gets a lot of value and proves problematic for many opponents. Check out AP's deck and other decks featured on the podcast on our TappedOut page (http://tappedout.net/users/LegendaryCreature-Podcast/mtg-decks/). Deck Tweaking: Shu Yun and Licia

E

Uuuuunnnnnghhhhhhh!!!!! Aaahhhhh….. Kyle and Andy have decks that aren't going as planned. Is it time to just scrap these disappointments? No! It's time get up and break some friends with edited decks. Andy and Kyle take a look at a couple of their decks and assess whether or not they can be competitive and how these decks can be tweaked to maximize their potential. Andy takes us through what went wrong with Shu Yun, the Silent Tempest deck and his spell-slinger build. Taking a cue from strengths and other areas of possibilities, Andy lays out a new take on his deck that has the potential for greater stability and more victories. Kyle goes through the weaknesses he has found in playing Licia, Sanguine Tribune with a companionate upkeep into lifegain and pressure build. He explores an alternative theme that surfaced in some of his more powerful synergies and explains how his deck can pivot to more wholly rely on a faster and more reliable strategy. Check out Andy's updated Shu Yun deck and Kyle's updated Licia deck on our TappedOut page (http://tappedout.net/users/LegendaryCreature-Podcast/mtg-decks/). This episode features a song from Dan Terminus's new album Automated Refrains. Kyle's Angsty Bullsh!t Deck

E

Kyle tries to kill himself with his deck and then switch places with other players when he realizes he wants to stay in the game after all. Can his angsty bull shit produce a body count at the commander table? Kyle techs his new deck for Andy and walks through his hipster idea of a deck. Let's be honest, this deck isn't going to win any games, but it could be an entertaining way to break up your roster of more straightforward decks. Check out Kyle's deck right here: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/kyles-suicide-deck/ Big thanks to Dan Terminus for letting us use your music for our intros/outros. Meta Bosses: Mizzix of the Izmagnus

E

Andy brings our meta bosses series to a close… for the time being. When you're a goblin riding a robot through the streets of Ravnica, you have to come up with unusual ways to assert your dominance. Mizzix of the Izmagnus and Andy locked eyes the moment Mizzix was spoiled as part of the Commander 2015 set. There was never a truer love. All Andy wants you to do when you square off against him and Mizzix is walk away. There will be safe passage into the wasteland, while he takes the oil, gasoline and compound. There are some obvious things that you can do with red and blue and cheating costs with Mizzix. Andy spells out the ways that he has approached Mizzix in early iterations and how he currently has the deck built. Listen to get Andy's deck tech of this battle tested deck. Be sure to find Andy's deck soon on TappedOut (http://tappedout.net/users/LegendaryCreature-Podcast/mtg-decks/) Big thanks to Dan Terminus for letting us use your music for our intros/outros. Therapy Session: Aggro and Andy

E

Are you a spell slinger, dabbling in aggro, creature-centric strategies? Are you pissed off at aggro yet? Maybe you're a Boros lover and you're ready to bash your head against the wall. Why don't you lay down on your couch and join us for a therapy session. Andy talks out his recent foray into aggro strategies using Shu Yun, the Last Airbe… uh… Silent Tempest, and his hopes to build around Sammut, Voice of Dissent. As a player whose style leans towards instants and sorceries, Andy explores with Kyle why he struggles to be comfortable with aggro and illuminates three key things any commander deck has to draw from to win. Big thanks to Dan Terminus for letting us use his music for intro/outro. The song this episode is Steel Clouds Over Iron Trees from the Stratospheric Canon Symphony album. Meta Bosses: Brago, King Eternal

E

Do you have friends? Do you want to keep your friends? Yeah? Well, you probably better just wait for the next episode then, because this won't help you gain any friends. Unless you're a spy... maybe you need to deal with an insufferable king. Well, regardless of why you stay, whether you're not interested in keeping your friends or you and the Black Rose are plotting against Brago, Kyle and Andy will break down Kyle's Brago Stax deck. Kyle will tell you he didn't build Brago with stax originally, but power corrupts. Kyle and Andy dig into how Brago maximizes value for basic things like card draw and ramp and then turns that into on oppressive board state that is difficult to overcome. Check out Kyle's deck (http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/kyles-brago-know-the-definition-of-sovereignty/) The dark beats this episode are by Dan Terminus. The song is Rust Titan from The Darkest Benthic Division. Please check out his music, for we have received his kindness, as he lets us use his music. Two-Headed Giant for Commander

E

Are you looking to mix it up a little with your commander play group? Try out two-headed giant for commander. Andy and Kyle talk about the challenges that they've confronted in mixing it up with commander. Kingdoms can lose its novelty and two-headed giant isn't as straight forward with commander as you'd think. Kyle and Andy outline some basic rules for building team decks to play two-headed giant with commander decks. Using the duel commander ban list and a version of the unified constructed rule—each team can only have one copy of any non-basic land between their two decks—they set out to get their two-headed giant showdown ready. They talk about the journey of building team decks and what they hope to see happen when they finally match up. Intro/outro beats this episode are by the Artist Home. The song is Above All from the album Before the Night. Support his tunes. Check out his music. We love him for being so gracious, as to let us use his tunes. Meta Bosses: Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker

E

There are some spooky things happening around the graveyard. Things that just need to die, but keep coming back. You haven't seen this many small powered things come back for more since the ants at that picnic that one time. Anyhow,Brad joins Andy and Kyle to talk about another one of the decks that has performed well in their play group. Brad breaks down his Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker deck and all the small powered creatures that just don't seem to ever go away. Their refusal to stay in the grave wears opponents down and leads to a deathly oppression. Check out Brad's Shirei deck list (http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/brads-shirei/). It's a good budget choice if you're looking for a deck with a competitive engine for a reasonable cost. Music this episode is from Dan Terminus' album Stratospheric Cannon Sympony. The song is One Million Dead in 2.7 Seconds. Give him your support and stop living your life without his sweet beats (https://dan-terminus.bandcamp.com/). Meta Bosses: Yisan, Wanderer Bard

E

Kyle and Andy continue their series talking about the commanders that have had tons of success in their play group. Andy goes musician and plays a deathly song with Yisan, the Wanderer Bard. They're no Simon & Garfunkel, but this deck has a penchant for finding the brown note. 8 of 10 dentists say you'll shit your pants. If you're looking for a relatively budget deck that is highly competitive, look no further than Andy's build for Yisan. Andy walks us through each verse that Yisan can play to simply charge at a win. He also lays out how you can protect your game plan by playing some of the Yisan verses a little differently. Check out Andy's deck on tappedout (http://tappedout.net/users/LegendaryCreature-Podcast/mtg-decks/). Music this episode is by the artist Dan Terminus. The song is Death by Distortion from the album The Wrath of Code. Thanks for letting us use your music Dan! Everyone, be sure to support him. Admiral Beckett Brass: The High Seas of Vorthos

E

Do you just need to plunder with your very own pirate crew? Well get on board and join us as we talk about Cody's commander deck built around Admiral Beckett Brass. Cody breaks down the basics of the deck and how he's approaching thievery via Admiral Beckett Brass' ability. It's not a well supported tribe, but Ixalan is giving you the basics you need to get your pirate deck started. Kyle and Andy add some options for Cody to use to help out with his need to give his pirates evasion and assess a few changeling options that may help Cody's pirate tribe get that extra umph needed to steal your stuff. Music this episode is by Dan Terminus. Big thanks to him for his kindness in letting us use his tunes. Check him out and support his music. Commander Staples

E

Kyle and Andy wax a bit philosophical as they try to define what a commander staple is and what is a card that's just too good to pass up. As they flesh out what they feel a staple is, they start to explore popular cards in each color. They discuss why those cards may or may not be staples and some deck types where they can be good to have. This episode may be helpful for players that are newer to the commander format. While Kyle and Andy don't necessarily give all the cards' stat lines, they do go over many cards that are popular in the format and their discussion may help you better understand some cards that would be good to add to your collection. Follow us on Twitter: @legend_creature We're super grateful that Home lets us use his music. This episode's intro/outro music is from Home's Resting State album, track 18. Meta Bosses: Erebos, God of the Dead

E

Kyle and Andy start a new Legendary Creature Podcast series, where they talk about some of their battle tested decks. Their meta bosses take the spotlight as they not only tech the deck, but talk about why these decks have dominated their play group. In this episode they talk about Kyle's Erebos, God of the Dead deck. Erebos may seem innocuous, but he's got a long straw that drinks your milkshake, slowly robbing you of your sweet resources and life. Kyle talks about the black pressure pieces and other components that have made Erebos a play group legend. Andy highlights why it's such a difficult deck to handle. Andy also breaks done some mono black mana staples for those that aren't experienced in mono-black commander. Check out Kyle's Erebos deck: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/kyles-erebos-he-drinks-your-milkshake/ Be sure to check out Dan Terminus' beats! Licia and Mairsil: A Vampire and Wizard Walk Into a Bar...

E

So you've got yourself some new commanders from the Commander 2017 set, eh? Well what are you gonna do with your fancy new cards? Andy and Kyle were supposed to come to the table with two different approaches to building a Licia, Sanguine Tribune deck. Andy concedes his idea didn't pan out. Kyle then talks about how Licia demands a very particular set of life gain spells to ensure that her steep mana cost can be overcome. He also shares his approach to including a pressure suite, so that Licia can be used to help towards a win rather than be the only way to win. Andy takes over from there and dives into his build for Mairsil, the Pretender. He illustrates several key creatures and artifacts that you want to get into the cage for Mairsil. He then goes through his plan to make sure that he takes full advantage of Mairsil's game of pretend. Check out Kyle's Licia deck: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/kyles-licia-battle-and-blood/ And check out Andy's Mairsil deck: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/andys-mairsil-so-much-pretending/update/ Thanks to Dan Terminus for letting us use your sweet tunes! Dear Garrett...

E

Hey Garrett, buddy! We're responding to your question. We decided to devote an episode to talking about the dude in your play group that's dedicated to winning with lame infinite combos or sniping games after being a non-threat until it was too late. In this episode, Kyle and Andy dive into their experiences with a variety of difficult to deal with players. From the guy that tries to snipe games with simple combos like Exquisite Blood and Sanguine Bond, to the dude that can't take a hint to improve his deck, right up to the guy that's just kind of an asshole, Kyle and Andy have dealt with it. They talk about how you can handle those unsavory characters that come to your commander table. They also shed some light on how to manage the culture of your playgroup so that everyone can keep having fun. Do you have questions for Andy and Kyle? What about decks you'd like us to tech or review? Send your thoughts our way! We're on Twitter @legend_creature Also rate us where you found us and let us know what you think of The Legendary Creature Podcast. As always, we love sharing some sick beats in our intro/outro! This episode, we've got the song Overflow from Home's album Before the Night. Check him out and support him! He's super kind to let us use his music. Vampires, Dragons, Wizards, and Cats! Oh My!

E

It's that special time of year, when all the commander playing girls and boys anxiously wait in anticipation for the day that they can get their hands on all their new new toys and goodies. It's commander Christmas! Kyle and Andy dive into a comprehensive look at all the new legendary creatures from the Commander 2017 set. They assess whether or not each new legend will be competitive and take a look at a few basics that could go into the decks with several of the more enticing new commanders. They also take a look at a few of the other new cards from the Commander 2017 set and give their opinion on how they could perform in the format. Let Kyle and Andy know what you think about Commander 2017 as you dive in with your new decks. They're on Twitter @legend_creature. A Terminator and A Riddle

E

Kyle and Andy continue exploring decks ideas for legendary creatures from the recently released Hour of Devastation. Andy explains his long standing love for burn decks and his desire to have a commander deck that is built to burn. His wait is over now that a certain lazotep covered terminator has arrived. Neheb can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear! And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead! Andy gives a deck tech for how to build a burn version of a Neheb commander deck. He explores effective ways to do damage and use Neheb's ability to cash in for loads of mana for big burn spells. Kyle then dives into a riddle: how do you build a mono-blue sphinx deck? He deck techs a sphinx deck with Unesh, Criosphinx Sovereign at the helm. He notes that with Unesh, you can capitalize on the diet fact or fiction—fact or sphinxion—that comes with casting sphinx spells. But because it's mono-blue, there is a dearth of sphinxes available to fill out the strategy. He then techs some sub-strategies that can be used to build a highly interactive deck where the true riddle is how to win. Can Unesh steal another player's win con? Here's Kyle Unesh list: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/kyles-unesh-fact-or-sphinxion/ Check out our other deck lists on TappedOut: http://tappedout.net/users/LegendaryCreature-Podcast/mtg-decks/ The sick beats this episode are by Dan Terminus. Some Plague Gods, But Not All the Plague Gods

E

Are you looking to get on the right side of the plague gods from Hour of Devastation? Kyle and Andy bring Cody in from their local play group to talk about The Scarab God. He breaks down his mill, wheel, and steal strategy and the key components he feels you need to enjoy this Nicol Bolas inspired zombie infestation, without using infinite combos. Andy then dives into his build for The Locust God. But wait.... shhh... don't tell Niv-Mizzet! Andy doesn't want the Firemind finding out about Andy's sudden but inevitable betrayal. Andy explains the power creep that we are seeing with this deck and how potent it can be. He also gets into how he planned for the deck to utilize its combos to ensure victory in a variety of ways, circumventing fog effects and pillow forts. Here's Cody's deck list: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/codys-scarab-god-deadicated-to-the-god-pharaoh/ And here's Andy's deck list: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/andy-locust-god-choose-your-plague/ We had a little change up for music this episode. Rhys-ies (Feces) the Redeemed Revisited

E

Andy's heard a rumor that Kyle has been working on resurrecting an old deck. He prods and finds out that Kyle has decided to rebuild his first commander deck: Rhys the Redeemed. They discuss the fact that they don't know how to pronounce Rhys. Rize? Reece? Shit. Who knows... Kyle talks through his thoughts on setting up an elf tribal build for Rhys to feed with elf tokens. Andy questions whether Kyle has built enough tokens into his strategy. Kyle also techs some clearly valuable cards from Amonkhet and a couple hidden gems that everyone with a Rhys the Redeemed deck ought to consider. Kyle and Andy also talk through an important part of deck building: having some ideas ready for tweaking your deck. They explore additions for the deck to protect the strategy as the playgroup responds to the Rhys elves deck. See Kyle's deck list on Tapped out. The sweet, sweet intro/outro beats you hear are by the Artist Home, the song Night Swim from the album Falling Into Place. Support his craft. Buy his music. Zur is Back from Bermuda

E

Andy built a Zur the Enchanter deck in our early days of playing commander. Our play group hasn't seen or heard from Zur in a long time though. Andy talks to Kyle about Zur being back in town after his sabbatical in Bermuda. Now Andy's got a new Zur deck. But this time, Zur is running a cycling mechanic theme. We break down the core pieces and strategy of a Zur cycling deck. Andy also talks about the intriguing possibility of building a cycling deck with partner commanders and four colors. Check out Andy's deck list! We're super grateful that Home lets us use his sweet beats. This episode's intro/outro music is from Home's Resting State album, track # 15. Netdecking: Getting Mad as Hell with Howard Beale

E

How do you feel about netdecking? Are you mad as hell that people are getting their deck ideas from the internet?! Do you have the spirit of Howard Beale prodding you to the window to scream, "I'm mad as hell and I'm not gonna take this netdecking any more!" Or... do you feel that netdecking is simply a good tool for building decks? Getting decks lists or ideas from the web is often a topic of discussion, and it came up on discussion boards recently when Adam Styborski wrote about what the data from EDHRec shows about card usage. Check out his article here. There are cards that are obvious inclusions when we are building a commander deck. Then there are those cards that we maybe don't naturally think about without some online help. Andy and Kyle take a look at a few cards in each color that maybe aren't the most used, but that are hard to deal with cards and come up frequently enough in netdeck references that you probably see them regularly. Andy then gives us some good ways to deal with those cards, so that we can all be ready to deal with netdecked ideas. We're super grateful that Home lets us use his sweet beats. This episode's intro/outro music is from Home's Resting State album, track # 4. Look up his tunes on his Bandcamp page. Big shout out to Mikey Patch for all our art work! Check his stuff out.

Sometimes you want to do what all the cool kids are doing, but do it your own way. Then you find out your way sucks... Kyle has a therapy session with Andy, talking out his hatred towards his Atraxa deck. They break down why he avoided calling in all planeswalkers for a super friends deck, how immoral infect is, and why +1/+1 counters don't work in our play group. Music this episode from HOME's Resting State album, track 15. We're super grateful he let's us use his music.
