When you're driving down the highway and you set your car to cruise control it gets just a little easier to get distracted because you de-obligate your attention to that important aspect of driving. Maybe there are kids clamoring for snacks in the back seat; maybe there's that one text you need to answer. The distractions start to build and eventually you could find yourself in a bad situation!
When followers of Christ adopt the same sort of "cruise control" mentality with their faith, the opportunities for distraction and destruction are just as prevalent.
