Nico Hulkenberg was on the brink of partnering Max Verstappen in the RB16B for 2021, helped by his ServusTV link and a reputation as a safe bank for points to respond to Mercedes. Then Perez won in Bahrain, momentum swung and Red Bull chose recent proof at the sharp end. We all now wonder how close the talks REALLY got, why team chemistry mattered and whether Nico’s driving style might have clicked faster with that car than Checo’s did.
