Starting February 15, 2027, Kansas SNAP recipients can no longer use benefits to buy soda or candy. This change comes after a law passed by the legislature, approved by the USDA, and will promote healthier choices. The state will use existing food and sales tax laws to define candy and soft drinks, excluding items with flour, milk, or substantial fruit juice. The Department for Children and Families is seeking a contractor to guide the rollout and minimize confusion.
