David Joseph Berkowitz, a prominent legal figure in Lawrence, Kansas, passed away at age eighty-four. Berkowitz, who studied at Wichita State College and earned his law degree from the University of Kansas, had a fifty-year career in law. He served as Douglas County Attorney from 1972 to 1976 and ran his own practice until 2020. Beyond law, Berkowitz was a dedicated Democrat, chairing the Douglas County Party from 1976 to 1986 and serving on various state and local committees. He was also honored by the Kansas Bar Association for his pro bono work. Berkowitz is survived by his wife, Katherine Kline, and sons William and John. Services are set for March 16th, with donations in his name suggested for the Lawrence Humane Society or Lawrence Public Library.
