Sue Wagner, Nevadas first female lieutenant governor, passed away at 86. She served in various roles from 1975 to 1999, including state assembly, senate, and lieutenant governor. Wagner, a University of Arizona and Northwestern University graduate, started her political career after moving to Reno in 1969. She championed domestic violence shelters, ethics commission, education funding, and abortion rights. Despite two plane crashes, one claiming her husbands life, she continued her political journey. Later, she served on the Nevada Gaming Commission until retiring in 2009. Wagner left the Republican Party in 2014 due to its rightward shift and became nonpartisan.
