Nevada Residents to Keep Federal Food Benefits Through April

Nevada residents will continue to receive federal food benefits through April 30th, thanks to a temporary waiver on new eligibility rules. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) had previously cut aid for some individuals who didnt meet work requirements. However, a federal lawsuit led to the restoration of benefits for around 25,000 adults. The new law requires able-bodied adults without dependents to work or volunteer at least 20 hours a week, but Nevada residents, including veterans, homeless people, and former foster youth, no longer receive automatic exemptions. The Department of Social Services announced that the exemption for Nevada and fifteen other states has been extended until the end of April, providing more time for the legal battle to play out.
