Measles Alert in Las Vegas: Attendees of ConExpo Convention Urged to Check Vaccination Status
Health officials in southern Nevada have issued an alert following a recent measles case linked to a visitor in Las Vegas. The individual attended the ConExpo convention at the Las Vegas Convention Center on March sixth and seventh, and stayed in the area on March eighth. The person was infectious during this entire period.
Measles is highly contagious, with up to nine out of ten unvaccinated people at risk of infection from exposure. The virus can remain airborne for up to two hours after an infected person leaves the room.
Anyone who was at the convention center during those dates is advised to check their vaccination status. If youre not fully vaccinated or havent had measles before, contact your doctor immediately to discuss next steps.
Symptoms may appear anywhere from seven to twenty-one days after exposure. Watch for early signs like fever, cough, runny nose, or red eyes, followed by a rash one to four days later.
If you notice these symptoms, isolate yourself from others and call your healthcare provider before seeking treatment. This helps prevent further spread of the virus while staff prepare necessary precautions.
