March 30, 2021--There are currently multiple Timber Harvest Plans slated for the watersheds of Big River, Caspar, Jughandle, Mitchell, and Hare Creek, encompassing much of the western section of the Jackson Demonstration State Forest. Logging is set to start on the Caspar plan as soon as this spring. Is this the highest and best use of our public lands? The Mendocino Trail Stewards, along with Tom Wheeler and Matt Simmons from EPIC, discuss how logging impacts wildfire, climate change, and outdoor recreation. What can we do to bring today’s forest practices in alignment with the realities of the 21st century?
