Show Notes

With this episode, Talking About California concludes this series of programs observing Hispanic Heritage Month with another very special guest, Alvaro Huerta, Professor of Urban Planning at Cal Poly, Pomona. In these programs, hosts Loreto Rojas and Cal Winslow have been considering the Black Lives Movement from a Latino perspective. Professor Huerta will talk about growing up in an East LA barrio and the relationship there between the police and the people. In his writings, Professor Huerta knits together immigration, poverty, racism and police brutality in a way everyone needs to listen to and to understand if sense is to be made of this summer’s crisis and the massive reemergence of the Black Lives Matter Movement. First Broadcast on October 20, 2020 on KZYX and Z.
