May 12, 2021--KZYX Program Director Alicia Bales presents a special interview with NPR’s global health correspondent Jason Beaubien. Jason has family in Mendocino County, and while he was in the area on May 8, he sat down for a conversation about radio, his work covering the global pandemic, and why stories from around the world matter. If you listen to NPR news, Jason Beaubien’s name will be familiar. Over his two decades at NPR news he has travelled all over the world, bringing listeners the voices of ordinary people living through extraordinary circumstances, from civil wars to nuclear meltdowns. He has spent most of his career in the developing world, and has a reputation for being willing and able to cover disasters. So when news came of an outbreak of a novel virus in Wuhan, China, he tried to get in to tell the story. Since then he has reported on the scope of the pandemic throughout the world, and has shined a light on the stark inequities revealed by the global response. He spoke to KZYX on Greenfield Ranch in the hills west of Redwood Valley.
