In zijn nieuwe film Once the Dust Settles vertelt documentairemaker John Appel een verhaal over rampverwerking en wederopbouw. De film laat zien hoe inwoners van plaatsen als Tsjernobyl, Aleppo en Amatrice hun leven weer proberen op te bouwen na een grote ramp. Appel maakte eerder o.a. de succesvolle documentaire Zij gelooft in mij, over zanger André Hazes.
