Oud-hoogleraar Fik Meijer is bekend als populaire schrijver over de oudheid in Nederland. Zijn nieuwste werk De sluier van Cicero: Van Catilina tot Baudet, gaat over de Romeinse staatsman Catilina. Al sinds de oudheid wordt hij als toppunt van slechtheid opgevoerd en dat is zeker niet altijd terecht. Eerdere bekende boeken van Meijer zijn Jezus en Gladiatoren. Zijn werk is in dertien talen vertaald.
