Ep 28Campus Voices - Nathan Hé
Nathan Hé is Assistant Director for Alumni Engagement for the Nebraska Alumni Association. A 2018 graduate of the UNL College of Journalism & Mass Communications, he coordinates a variety of programs for the Alumni Association including the alumni of color network, the pride alumni network, the first-gen alumni network and the international alumni network plus helping with diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives on a variety of levels.

Jenna Johnson is the deputy democracy editor for the Washington Post. A graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism & Mass Communications, she helps lead the Post's team that focuses on threats to the electoral process and battles over the right to vote. She previously worked as a national politics reporter, covering the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections. She returned to the UNL campus to deliver the college's annual Seline Lecture on April 11, and also recorded this episode of Campus Voices.

She is co-founder & CEO of Embrace Global, which developed a groundbreaking, low-cost infant incubator that has saved over 350,000 babies. Embrace has been featured by the New York Times, CNN, Newsweek, the Guardian, and ABC’s 20/20. Chen is a TED speaker and a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum. She was selected for Forbes' Impact 30, the Economist Innovation Award, and the Fast Company Innovation Award, and was recognized as Social Entrepreneur of the Year. Chen also served on the Board of Directors of the Center for Humane Technology. She was a guest speaker at the E.N. Thompson Forum on Tuesday, March 28, 2023.

Jane Olson is a 1964 graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications. She has worked for decades as a volunteer promoting international peace and justice and humanitarian work. She chaired the International Board of Trustees of Human Rights Watch, the largest US-based international human rights organization, from 2004 to 2010, having worked on behalf of HRW since 1988. She also chaired the board of Survivor Corps for 12 years since its founding as Landmine Survivors Network. LSN and HRW were among the five organizations to receive the Nobel Peace Prize in 1997for the International Landmine Ban Treaty. She visited the UNL campus to share stories of her humanitarian efforts with students and the greater university community and to discuss her new book "World Citizen – Journeys of a Humanitarian."

On the weekend of KRNU's 50th anniversary in February of 2020, former UNL Broadcasting Department Chairman, Larry Walklin, visited Campus Voices to discuss the station's creation and history. Walklin was in charge of the Broadcasting major at the time the station signed on in 1970 and was instrumental in its creation. He served as the station's first general manager from 1970 until 1995.

USC's Election Cybersecurity Initiative established a lofty goal for 2020: to provide online training on election security in all 50 states for election workers, state officials, media representatives and the general public. Faculty members from UNL's College of Law and College of Journalism & Mass Communications joined the online panel for Nebraska's training session on June 18th. The Initiative's director, Adam Clayton Powell III, is featured in this episode of "Campus Voices" to discuss the genesis of the project and some of the issues they cover. Dr. Shari Veil began her role as the new Dean of the UNL College of Journalism & Mass Communications on July 1. A native of North Dakota, Veil returns to the Great Plains from the University of Kentucky where she served as the associate dean for undergraduate affairs in the College of Communication and Information and chair and professor in the Department of Communication. She discussed her vision for UNL's College of Journalism & Mass Communications and the state of the various media industries.
