Ep 330These Cars Should’ve Been TERRIBLE… So Why Do We Love Them?

Some cars are supposed to be bad…. No car enthusiast ever woke up thinking “you know… the PT Cruiser actually isn’t half bad”…. or did they? On paper, they miss the mark. Weird styling. Questionable performance. Odd positioning. Maybe even straight-up hated when they launched. …but then you drive them. In this episode of the Konig Behind the Wheel Podcast, we dive into the cars that should have sucked—but somehow didn’t. The unexpected heroes. The guilty pleasures. The cars we shouldn’t love… but absolutely do. We’re talking about machines like the Dodge Neon SRT-4, the cult-favorite Nissan NX2000, the bizarre-but-brilliant Infiniti FX50, and more that completely defy expectations. Why did these cars work when they shouldn’t have? What made them fun despite their flaws? And are we all just lying to ourselves… or were these actually great? If you’re into underdogs, hot takes, and cars that don’t make sense—but somehow do—this episode is for you. 2026 Behind the Wheel Podcast | All Rights ReservedThank you for tuning in, and if you enjoy our podcast, please SUBSCRIBE! Ep 328From Stock to Built: The Logical Mod Sequence

What’s the right order to modify your car? In this episode with KONIG Wheels, we break down the natural progression most enthusiasts follow when building their cars — what we call the mod ladder. Too many people jump straight to power mods and skip the foundation. The reality? There’s a smarter way to build. Most builds follow a pattern: Wheels & Tires Suspension Brakes Supporting Mods Power Adders We talk through why wheels and tires are usually the first step, how suspension transforms the driving experience, when it makes sense to add performance upgrades, and where people commonly go wrong. If you’re planning your next upgrade — or starting fresh with a new build — this episode will help you prioritize your mods the right way and get the most out of your budget. Whether you’re into daily drivers, track builds, stance, grip, or horsepower numbers… understanding the progression matters. Let us know in the comments – What was your first modification? 2026 Behind the Wheel Podcast | All Rights ReservedThank you for tuning in, and if you enjoy our podcast, please SUBSCRIBE! Ep 327Cars that SHOULD exist, but DON’T… a new S2000, S16, R36?

What happened to the cars we actually want? Are we witnessing the end of true enthusiast-focused cars? In this episode of Behind the Wheel Podcast on the KONIG Wheels YouTube channel, we’re talking about the cars that absolutely should exist… but don’t. A modern Honda S2000. A true Nissan S16. A next-generation Nissan R36. Enthusiasts have been asking for these cars for years — so what’s taking so long? And when automakers finally bring these icons back, will they stay true to their roots… or end up watered down like the recent Prelude revival? We break down: Why a new S2000 feels inevitable — yet complicated Whether Nissan still has room for a proper Silvia successor (and what it would take to follow the legacy of the Nissan Silvia) What the future of the GT-R looks like after the long run of the Nissan GT-R How emissions, electrification, and global regulations are reshaping performance cars Whether nostalgia is helping or hurting modern car development Are we asking for cars that can’t exist anymore? Or are brands overthinking what enthusiasts really want? Drop a comment and tell us: What car deserves a comeback — and what can’t change when it returns? 2026 Behind the Wheel Podcast | All Rights ReservedThank you for tuning in, and if you enjoy our podcast, please SUBSCRIBE! Ep 326Are automakers killing enthusiast cars?

In this episode of the KONIG Wheels Behind the Wheel Podcast, we ask a question a lot of car enthusiasts are quietly thinking—but few want to say out loud: Are we witnessing the end of true enthusiast-focused cars? We talk about: From icons like the R34 Skyline, FD RX-7, and Nissan 350Z, to modern “revivals” that feel more like marketing exercises than passion projects, we break down how car manufacturers have shifted their priorities—and what that means for enthusiasts. We dive into: Why modern cars feel watered down compared to past legends The difference between an enthusiast car and a mass-market car with a legacy badge Why slapping a classic name like “Prelude” on a hybrid doesn’t resonate with core enthusiasts How regulations, electrification, and profit margins are reshaping car design. Whether automakers will ever build cars purely for enthusiasts again. Is this just evolution… or is something fundamental being lost? Whether you grew up idolizing JDM legends, modifying budget cars into something special, or feel disconnected from modern performance cars altogether, this episode digs into the uncomfortable reality of where car culture may be headed. Is this the end of enthusiast cars—or will they come back in a new form? Behind the Wheel is KONIG Wheels’ podcast where we talk cars, culture, and the stories that shaped the automotive world. 2025 Behind the Wheel Podcast | All Rights ReservedThank you for tuning in, and if you enjoy our podcast, please SUBSCRIBE! Ep 325The 90s & 2000s East Coast Car Scene

Before social media, before YouTube builds, and before everything was polished, the East Coast car scene in the 90s and early 2000s was raw, underground, and community-driven. In this episode of Behind the Wheel by KONIG Wheels, we take a deep dive into what it was really like growing up in the East Coast car scene. From late-night parking lot meets and industrial park street races to the rise of tuner culture and JDM imports, this era shaped modern car enthusiasm as we know it today. We talk about: -What East Coast car meets were like before social media -The underground street racing scene and how it actually operated -The explosion of tuner and JDM cars in the late 90s and early 2000s -How The Fast and the Furious changed car culture forever -Why the East Coast scene had its own unique identity compared to the West Coast -Whether you were there building Civics, Integras, and WRXs, or you’re discovering this era for the first time, this episode is a full nostalgia trip into one of the most influential periods in car culture history. Ep 324Mods we can’t stand… but also sort of get!

Some car mods make us cringe… but at the same time, we kinda get why people do them. In this episode of the KONIG Behind the Wheel Podcast, we’re talking about the mods we can’t stand, yet somehow still understand. From cars running way too much aero for the street, to overdone carbon fiber everywhere you look, to exhausts that shoot flames and burble tunes that never seem to shut off—these are the trends that divide the car community. We break down why these mods exist, where they actually make sense, and when they cross the line from functional to full-on spectacle. Is it all about attention? Chasing race car vibes? Or just doing what makes you happy, regardless of what anyone else thinks? Whether you love these mods, hate them, or secretly want them on your own car, this episode dives into the fine line between form, function, and personal taste in car culture. Listen in and let us know—what’s a mod you hate… but totally understand? 2025 Behind the Wheel Podcast | All Rights ReservedThank you for tuning in, and if you enjoy our podcast, please SUBSCRIBE! Ep 323When does a street car become a race car?

In this episode of the Konig Behind the Wheel podcast, we dive into one of the most debated topics in car culture: where does a street car end and a race car begin? Every build starts with good intentions, but somewhere between coilovers, sticky tires, roll cages, and gutted interiors, the line starts to blur. We talk about the moment a car stops being comfortable, practical, or even livable on the street, and becomes something better suited for the track. Is it suspension stiffness? Noise and vibration? Daily drivability sacrifices? Or is it simply a mindset shift once lap times matter more than convenience? This episode breaks down real-world experiences from street-driven builds, track-focused cars, and everything in between. Whether you’re building a weekend canyon carver, a dedicated track weapon, or something you still need to drive to work, this conversation explores how far is too far—and whether that line even exists. Perfect for car enthusiasts, racers, and builders trying to balance performance, comfort, and practicality, this episode captures a debate every enthusiast eventually faces when modifying their car. In this episode of the Konig “Behind the Wheel” Podcast, we dive into the crossover between the car community and action sports culture. Youtube personalities like Adam LZ, Jimmy Oakes, Tommy F Yeah, and even stars like T-Pain all have things in common. Let’s break it down. We talk about the mindset behind building, breaking, and pushing limits, how early exposure to BMX and skateboarding shapes the way people approach cars, and why these subcultures naturally blend into each other. Ep 321Are real CAR MEETS dying in 2025? The effects of ILLEGAL “takeover” sideshows

In this episode of the KONIG Behind the Wheel podcast, we dive into a growing problem in the automotive community: illegal “takeover” sideshow events — and the negative impact they’re having on real car culture. We talk about why these reckless pop-up gatherings have nothing to do with true enthusiast culture, how they’re destroying the reputation of legitimate car meets and shows, and why we’re seeing more of them as we move into 2025. From safety concerns to media portrayal to the ripple effects on event organizers and everyday enthusiasts, we break down what’s actually going on behind the scenes. What does the future of car meets look like if illegal sideshows continue to stain the scene? Are we at risk of losing safe, organized meets altogether? Ep 315The “R34 Tax”… Are these JDM Legends worth the $$$?

In this episode of KONIG’s “Behind the Wheel” Podcast, we get real about JDM legends and ask the question no one wants to answer out loud: Are we paying for performance… or prestige? We’re breaking down the hype vs reality of owning iconic cars like the Nissan R34 Skyline—the poster child of Gran Turismo dreams and Fast & Furious fame—versus the often-overlooked but crazy capable Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4, a twin-turbo, AWD beast that never quite got the love it deserved. We talk: Build potential – Which platform gives you more bang for your buck? Driving experience – Is one really more fun, or just more famous? Value vs. hype – Are buyers chasing performance, or chasing clout? Maintenance, tuning, and real-world ownership – What’s it actually like to live with these cars today? We’re not here to hate—just here to have the conversations every car guy (and girl) is already having in the garage, the group chat, and at 2AM on car forums. Ep 310Before the Algorithm: the Golden Age of Car Forums 💀

Remember when car enthusiasts lived on message boards, not Instagram? In this episode, we take a nostalgic ride back to the era of Internet forums — the OG hub for gearheads to share knowledge, source parts, document builds, and argue over engine swaps. We talk about the charm and chaos of those early digital garages — from deciphering thread hierarchies and sketchy photobucket links to the legendary DIY write-ups and community drama that made forums more than just websites. Now replaced by fast-scrolling feeds and short-form content, we ask: what did we lose when we traded forum culture for social media? And what, if anything, can modern car culture learn from the past? Whether you were deep in the Honda-Tech trenches or lurking on NASIOC, this one’s for the old-school enthusiasts. Ep 309Why do Americans love SUVs so much?

I think all of us can agree that when you pull into pretty much any grocery store parking lot, you’re bound to be met with a sea of SUVs, usually all either white, silver, or black in color…. what is going on? Are the soccer moms taking over officially now, or do Americans just feel safer driving bigger cars? Do we really need all that space? Sure… maybe you’ve got kids whom you take to soccer practice! But when you drop them off, you still want a bit of spirited driving. That’s where the HEMI comes in! Is it ridiculous or totally necessary that the 2025 Dodge Durango Hellcat comes stock with 710 HP? Ask most and they’ll say “Unneccesary”, but you ask our guy Nick and he’ll give you a HECK YEA! Why not wagons? The rest of the world, primarily Europe and Asia LOVE THEIR WAGONS. Does a wagon really not provide enough space for everything we want to do with our cars? Weigh in below! DO YOU HAVE A SPORTY SUV? Let us know what you got in the comments. 2025 Behind the Wheel Podcast | All Rights ReservedThank you for tuning in, and if you enjoy our podcast, please SUBSCRIBE! Ep 299OEMs Bringing Back Iconic Names (RSX, PRELUDE, MR2) | Behind the Wheel Podcast

OEMs Bringing Back Iconic Names (RSX, PRELUDE, MR2) Names like “Honda Prelude” and “Acura RSX” are starting to re-enter the market as OEMs continue their push of re-introducing old legendary names back to enthusiasts looking for a new car. At first sight, you may see “2026 Acura RSX” and get excited at the thought of Acura re-introducing a classic name as a new, fun, sports car. But, remember what Mitsubishi did with the Eclipse when they re-introduced it as the Eclipse Cross? Get ready for heaps of disappointment, because the 2026 Acura RSX is NOT what you’re expecting. (Neither is the Honda Prelude). So that got us talking about this trend, and the ramifications that come with it. For instance, as OEMs make this push and inevitable transition to EVs, what does that mean for the enthusiast? Is there any possibility to tune these EV powertrains or is modification basically out the window going forward? 2024 Behind the Wheel Podcast | All Rights Reserved Thank you for tuning in and if you enjoy our podcast, please SUBSCRIBE! Ep 292Honda and Nissan merger…it’s really not what you think…. | Behind the Wheel Podcast

Honda and Nissan merger…it’s really not what you think…. | Behind the Wheel Podcast Big news in the automotive world recently with the announcement of the merger between Honda and Nissan (… and Mitsubishi) to create the world’s third largest automotive company, behind Toyota and Volkswagen. “On Dec. 23, the automakers announced that discussions were underway to create a new holding company that would operate both Honda and Nissan — and potentially include Mitsubishi Motors Corp. However, executives acknowledged several months of talks remain before they can finalize a merger agreement. The potential merger of Honda Motor Co. and Nissan Motor Corp’s could catapult the two automakers into a stronger global position in the race to deploy new technology and bring electric vehicles to the market faster, experts say.” The potential merger between the two companies could mean big things for enthusiasts… or could it? Will this merger open the doors for the enthusiast by bringing us something like an AWD Type R or a VTEC-equipped S-chassis return? Or are we more likely to see advancements in EV and Hybrid Technology? Let’s dive into this news as well as talk about some possibilities on the enthusiast side. Ep 287WTF! Happened to the EAGLE TALON? | Behind the Wheel Podcast

WTF Happened to the EAGLE TALON? | Behind The Wheel Podcast Luis & Nick dive deep into the fascinating history of certain car brands that have since disappeared, like Eagle, Scion, and Datsun. On today’s podcast, they take a nostalgic journey back to the 90s to reminisce about the legendary Eagle Talon, a car that became an icon for enthusiasts during its short but memorable run. In the early 1990s, Chrysler introduced the Eagle brand as part of its ambitious effort to offer a diverse lineup of cars that could cater to different markets. Eagle was meant to be a kind of “experimental” label, with the focus on more adventurous, distinctive designs and a blend of American and foreign engineering. While it never gained a huge following, it did have a handful of models that captured the imaginations of car lovers at the time. The most iconic of these was the Eagle Talon, which was introduced in 1990 and quickly became a favorite among sports car enthusiasts. The Talon was essentially a rebadged version of the Mitsubishi Eclipse and Plymouth Laser, but it was marketed as a more performance-oriented alternative. Its sleek, aggressive design and relatively affordable price tag made it a hit in the import car scene, especially among younger buyers who were looking for something that could stand out from the sea of Hondas and Toyotas. But despite its early success, the Eagle brand had always struggled to find a consistent identity. Cars like the Eagle Summit—a compact hatchback—and the Eagle Vision, a full-size sedan, never quite captured the same magic as the Talon. While the Vision offered a futuristic look and features that made it ahead of its time, it never gained much traction in the marketplace. The Summit was simply too underwhelming, competing with more established nameplates in a crowded segment. By 1998, Chrysler had had enough of its experimental Eagle venture. The brand was discontinued, and the last Eagle car was sold, signaling the end of an era for a company that had tried to carve out a niche in the increasingly competitive automotive market. Some enthusiasts still look back on the Eagle Talon with fondness, often citing it as one of the greatest “forgotten” performance cars of the 90s. Luis & Nick explore why the Eagle brand never really lived up to its potential, despite the fact that cars like the Talon were beloved by enthusiasts. They also discuss the broader trends that led to its demise, such as the rise of more established Japanese brands like Toyota, Honda, and Nissan, who dominated the market in both quality and reliability. The podcast delves into how Chrysler’s decision to close the doors on Eagle was part of a larger shift within the auto industry, as companies refocused on their core brands and tried to streamline their offerings. They also touch on other car brands that went the way of the Eagle, like Scion and Datsun. Scion, a youth-oriented brand introduced by Toyota, aimed to capture a new generation of drivers but ultimately fizzled out due to a lack of brand identity and an inability to adapt to changing market demands. Similarly, Datsun, which was rebranded as Nissan in the 1980s, represents another example of a once-prominent nameplate that faded into obscurity as the automotive industry evolved. In the end, the story of Eagle, and cars like the Talon, is a reminder of how quickly the automotive landscape can change. Brands rise and fall, and what was once cutting-edge can quickly become obsolete. For car enthusiasts, however, the Eagle Talon and the brands like it will always be remembered fondly as a time when the auto industry took risks, experimented with bold designs, and sometimes, even produced a true legend. © 2024 Behind the Wheel Podcast | All Rights Reserved Thank you for Tuning in and please, if you like the podcast and what we’ve been doing here, please SUBSCRIBE! Ep 286The Autonomous Journey || Behind The Wheel Podcast

Embarking on the Autonomous Journey: Behind The Wheel with Luis and Nick Embarking on the Autonomous Journey: Behind The Wheel with Luis and Nick Imagine stepping into a car without a driver, gliding through city streets while you sit back and enjoy the ride. Sounds like science fiction, right? Not anymore. In this week’s episode of the Behind The Wheel podcast, our hosts Luis and Nick dive headfirst into the exhilarating world of self-driving cars, sharing firsthand experiences and tackling the big questions surrounding this game-changing technology. A Leap of Faith in San Francisco Luis kicks off the episode with an electrifying tale from his recent trip to San Francisco. Amidst the hustle of a B-Boy competition, he and his friend stumbled upon Waymo’s autonomous vehicles cruising effortlessly through the city. Skeptical yet intrigued, they decided to take the plunge. The result? An eye-opening journey that felt as if an invisible chauffeur was at the helm. From the seamless navigation to the unexpected interactions with pedestrians who confidently crossed paths with the driverless car, Luis found himself not just impressed but genuinely comfortable. The Human Element vs. Artificial Intelligence But it’s not all smooth sailing. Nick brings a critical eye to the discussion, pondering the implications of removing the human instinct from driving. He raises essential concerns about how autonomous cars handle unexpected situations—those split-second decisions that human drivers make daily. The duo delves into incidents like GM’s Cruise vehicle accident and Tesla’s past self-driving challenges, underscoring the importance of safety and reliability as the technology evolves. Design, Aesthetics, and the Future of Driving The conversation takes an intriguing turn as they discuss the aesthetics of self-driving cars. While companies like Waymo prioritize functionality with sensor-laden vehicles, Tesla aims for a sleeker, more futuristic design with their upcoming Cyber Taxi. Luis and Nick debate whether cutting-edge technology can coexist with the stylish appeal that consumers expect from modern vehicles. Coexistence of Tradition and Innovation One of the episode’s most compelling themes is the coexistence of autonomous vehicles and traditional driving. Luis remains optimistic, envisioning a future where both can thrive. He believes that while driverless cars may handle daily commutes, there’s still a place for the thrill of driving that enthusiasts cherish. Nick, ever the car aficionado, hopes that the essence of driving doesn’t get lost in the march toward automation. Technological Marvels and Industry Impact Reflecting on how far we’ve come—from flip phones to smartphones, and now to self-driving cars—the hosts marvel at the rapid pace of innovation. They also touch on what this means for industries like aftermarket car parts. Companies like Konig Wheels continue to thrive, adapting to new technologies while catering to both traditional drivers and early adopters of autonomous vehicles. Why You Can’t Miss This Episode This isn’t just a conversation about cars; it’s a deep dive into the future that’s unfolding right before our eyes. Ep 284Spec Racing – Ali Arsham || Behind The Wheel Podcast

Behind The Wheel Podcast: Affordable Spec Racing with Ali Arsham Introduction: Get ready to be inspired by this week’s episode of the Behind The Wheel Podcast from SEMA. Host Scott sits down with accomplished driver and driving coach, Ali Arsham, to discuss the world of spec racing—specifically focusing on making it accessible and affordable for everyone. From the roots of spec racing to the new E90 series and tips for beginners, this episode offers valuable insights for anyone looking to hit the track without breaking the bank. The Roots of Spec Racing Ali begins by explaining how spec racing classes like Pro7 and Spec Miata were initially created to offer a cost-effective entry point for racers. These series aimed to level the playing field by restricting modifications, keeping builds simple and affordable. However, the competitive nature of racing often led participants to spend more money chasing marginal gains in performance. Introduction to the E90 Spec Class The conversation shifts to the exciting new E90 spec series that Ali is helping to develop. This series focuses on the BMW E90 328 platform, chosen for its balance between affordability, availability, and performance. By mandating that racers stick to mostly stock components and cost-effective upgrades, the E90 spec class ensures a close, competitive field where the focus is on driver skill rather than budget. Balancing Cost and Competition Ali dives deeper into how the E90 spec class maintains affordability. Expensive components like high-end shocks or custom-engineered parts are restricted, while reliable and easily sourced parts—such as stock BMW components or affordable bolt-ons—are encouraged. This approach keeps costs low and encourages creativity and resourcefulness among racers. Engineering Freedom Within Rules For those with a knack for engineering and creativity, spec racing offers the perfect playground. Ali highlights how spec series like the E90 class strike a balance by allowing racers to fine-tune their vehicles within a specific set of guidelines. This framework maintains competition fairness while still giving drivers and builders room for innovation and personal touches. From Simulator to Racetrack Are you new to the racing scene? Ali and Scott discuss how enthusiasts can transition from simulator racing to real-world track driving. They break down programs like NASA’s HPDE, which helps novices gain on-track experience safely. Ali emphasizes the importance of building confidence and skill on the track before diving into competitive racing, ensuring that newbies are prepared for the demands of spec series competition. Making Motorsport Accessible One of the core messages of this episode is that racing doesn’t have to be prohibitively expensive. Ali and Scott highlight how affordable platforms, well-defined rules, and support from organizations like NASA can make the dream of racing a reality for more people. The E90 spec class stands out as a shining example of how to make motorsport engaging, competitive, and financially accessible. Conclusion This episode is packed with insights into the art and science of spec racing. Whether you’re a seasoned driver or just revving up your interest in motorsport, Ali Arsham’s passion and expertise shine through every minute. From understanding the philosophy behind spec series to learning how to prepare a budget-friendly race car, this conversation offers a roadmap for anyone eager to hit the track. Tune in to discover how the E90 spec class and other spec series are making racing more accessible and exciting than ever before. © 2024 Behind the Wheel Podcast | All Rights Reserved Thank you for Tuning in and please, if you like the podcast and what we’ve been doing here, please SUBSCRIBE!
