Gold dropped sharply in April due to a rise in U.S. Treasury yields and a resilient U.S. dollar, noted mining audiences manager Michael McCrae.

On Friday McCrae recorded Kitco Roundtable with Kitco correspondent Paul Harris.

Copper was off about 5% for the week, noted McCrae. Concerns about the pandemic and an industrial slowdown in China weighed. In its earnings Caterpillar warned that demand in China will be weak, similar to what was experienced in 2019 during the start of the pandemic.

The Chinese government did announce an aggressive stimulus to support the economy.
