More on Owen g3 and Blasphemy

In this episode of Kingdom Polemics, Aldo Leon continues his critique of Owen Strachan's views on Christianity and politics. He challenges some of the arguments that Strachan makes at the G3 about Christian Nationalism, such as:The idea that Christianization is only a future reality, not a present one.The idea that suffering for Christ is incompatible with seeking Christian influence in society. The idea that faith in the gospel is opposed to faith in God's covenantal promises for the nations.Leon also appeals to the examples of biblical prophets, historical figures, and Jonathan Edwards as models of how Christians should engage with civil authorities and promote true religion. He argues that the reformed tradition has a broader and more comprehensive vision of Christ and his kingdom than what Strachan and others represent. He calls for a more optimistic and expansive view of God's grace and power in history. If you missed the preceding episode on this topic, you can watch it on YouTube: https://youtu.be/TjXLs_wnDU8.Are you enjoying Kingdom Polemics? Owen g3 and Blasphemy

In this episode, Aldo Leon responds to some of the comments made by Owen Strachan, a prominent evangelical theologian and professor, at the G3 conference on the topic of Christian nationalism. Leon challenges Strachan's views on free speech, blasphemy laws, and the role of the church and the state in society. He argues that Strachan is not consistent with the biblical, reformed, and historical perspective on these issues, and that he is influenced by secular and Baptist assumptions. Leon also interacts with various passages from the Old and New Testament, as well as from the reformed confessions and Calvin's Institutes, to support his position. He calls for a more holistic and comprehensive understanding of the Great Commission and the kingship of Christ over all nations. Some of the points that Leon makes in this episode are:Free speech is not a biblical concept, but a classical liberal and secular one. The third commandment prohibits taking God's name in vain, and God judges both individuals and nations for their blasphemy (e.g., Nebuchadnezzar, Herod, etc.).The 10 commandments are not exclusive to Israel, but are given in creation, before Sinai, and after Sinai. They are also applicable to all nations in the new covenant era, as prophesied by Isaiah and other prophets. The Great Commission does not exclude or contradict the biblical teaching on the kingship of Christ over all nations. Psalms 2, Isaiah 49, Romans 13, Revelation 1, and other passages show that God expects kings and magistrates to submit to Christ and serve his church. The Old Testament examples of godly rulers who reformed religion and society (e.g., Hezekiah, Josiah, etc.) are not irrelevant or obsolete for Christians today. They are models of how civil authorities should use their power for God's glory and the good of his people. The reformed tradition has always affirmed the cooperation between church and state in promoting a Christian society. The reformed confessions, Calvin's Institutes, and the Westminster Assembly are examples of how this was done in history. Are you enjoying Kingdom Polemics? Warning on White Wokeness

In this episode of Kingdom Polemics, Aldo Leon warns about the dangers of white wokeness, a movement that elevates white ethnicity and culture to a spiritual and moral level. He exposes the faulty assumptions and arguments of white woke advocates, such as the Daily Genevan, who claim to defend their Christian nation, Anglo heritage, and God from globalist and anti-Christ enemies. He also traces the roots of white wokeness to the theonomic teachings of Rousas Rushdoony, who advocated for racial and cultural segregation based on a misinterpretation of biblical law. He contrasts this approach with the biblical way of addressing ethnic and cultural issues, which is based on the gospel of grace, the union with Christ, and the new covenant ministry. He challenges Christians to reject any form of ethnocentrism and to embrace the diversity and unity of God's people in Christ. Are you enjoying Kingdom Polemics? Trust or Treason Without a Third Way

Welcome to Kingdom Polemics, the podcast where we explore the reformed perspectives on Christ's kingship and kingdom. In this episode, you will hear Pastor Aldo Leon preach on Psalms 2 from the pulpit of Pinelands Presbyterian Church in Cutler Bay, Florida. Psalms 2 is a powerful text that shows how Christ triumphs over the raging nations and blesses those who take refuge in him. The sermon connects Psalms 2 with Psalms 1, and shows how the blessed man of Psalms 1 has earned a kingdom by his obedience and faithfulness. The sermon also explains how Psalms 2 reveals what happens as Christ on His throne over the nations, extends his rule from Zion to the ends of the earth. The sermon applies the text to the current situation of the church and the world, and challenges us to be faithful to the king and his laws, and to proclaim his wrath and grace to the nations that rage against him. The sermon also shows how Psalms 2 is fulfilled in Christ's baptism, death, resurrection, ascension, and second coming, and how it gives us hope and confidence in the midst of opposition and persecution. The sermon concludes by calling us to kiss the son, serve the Lord with fear, rejoice with trembling, and take refuge in him. More Conservative and Less Confessional

In this episode, Pastor Aldo Leon discusses the problem of churches that are more conservative than they are confessional. He argues that many churches in the reformed Presbyterian world have a superficial understanding of the first table of the law, which deals with our duties to God, and a lack of awareness of the confessional standards that summarize the biblical teaching on worship, liturgy, images, holy days, and the Sabbath. He points out the inconsistencies and dangers of this approach, and how it opens the door for idolatry, anarchy, and wokeness. He also challenges some of the common practices and arguments that are used to justify this more conservative but less confessional mindset. He calls for a return to a robust and consistent application of the first table of the law and the regulative principle of worship (RPW), as well as a deeper appreciation of the covenantal and redemptive historical framework of Scripture. He urges us to worship God according to his word and not according to our imaginations and devices. This is a challenging and thought-provoking episode that will make you examine your own views and practices in light of God's word and the reformed tradition.Join the Kingdom Polemics community on our YouTube page at https://youtube.com/@kingdompolemics, where you can subscribe, leave comments, and access more thought-provoking content. Wilson with More Wolfish Words

In this episode of Kingdom Polemics, Pastor Aldo Leon engages in a robust critique of Doug Wilson's recent blog of 31-Jul-23 (https://dougwils.com/books-and-culture/s7-engaging-the-culture/ordo-order.html), dissecting key points of disagreement:Infused Righteousness and Roman Catholicism: Pastor Aldo challenges Doug Wilson's use of "infused righteousness," associating it with Roman Catholic theology. He argues that this term's implication of grace as a substance bears resemblance to Catholic teachings and cites Aquinas to underscore his concern.Rejection of Ontological Participation and Instrument of Imputed Righteousness: Pastor Aldo critiques Wilson's notion of righteousness as ontological participation in the deity, paralleling it with Osiander's theology. He counters with a reaffirmation of the Reformed understanding that regeneration precedes faith, and justifies renewal through imputed righteousness.Confessional Standards and Roman Catholic Comparisons: Drawing from the Westminster Confession of Faith and the Westminster Larger Catechism, Pastor Aldo reinforces his stance on infused and imputed righteousness, suggesting Wilson's divergence from these Reformed standards. He highlights perceived tensions between Wilson's viewpoint and Roman Catholic tendencies to fuse concepts.Gaffin's Approach and Affirmation-Denial Duality: Pastor Aldo introduces Richard B. Gaffin's solution to the regeneration-justification tension. He accuses Wilson of affirming orthodoxy while simultaneously denying it, pointing out potential inconsistencies in Wilson's position. In this thought-provoking episode, Pastor Aldo Leon critically engages with Doug Wilson's theological perspectives, diving into intricate debates surrounding infused righteousness, ontological participation, regeneration, and justification, all while drawing from Reformed confessions and examining parallels with Roman Catholic thought.Join the Kingdom Polemics community on our YouTube page at https://youtube.com/@kingdompolemics, where you can subscribe, leave comments, and access more thought-provoking content. The Divines and the Decalogue

In this episode, Pastor Aldo discusses the rules for the right understanding of the 10 commandments, as explained in the Westminster Larger Catechism, specifically, WLC #99 (https://reformedstandards.com/westminster/wlc.html?a=question-99). He explains how the law of God is perfect, spiritual, interconnected, and comprehensive, and how it requires us to obey God in every aspect of our lives. He also shows how the law of God reflects God's simple and unified character, and how it promises blessings for obedience and curses for disobedience. He gives many examples of how breaking or keeping one commandment affects other commandments, and how we cannot separate the law into first and second tables, or into essentials and non-essentials, or into spiritual and temporal aspects. He challenges us to examine our hearts and motives, and to seek to glorify God by keeping his law in spirit and truth. 1788 WCF, Christendom and Theocracy

In this episode of Kingdom Polemics, Pastor Aldo and Rev. Dr. Benjamin Glaser delve into the changes made to the 1788 Westminster Confession of Faith (WCF) in the American version, currently used in the PCA. Dr. Glaser, a member of the ARPC, shares his thoughts on the appropriateness of these alterations. The conversation starts with Pastor Aldo reading the changes introduced in the 1788 WCF. Dr. Glaser expresses concern over the undergirding libertarian conception of the individual in the American version, which was not present in the original. One of Dr. Glaser's key points is that remnants of the establishment principle are still present in the American version. He argues that the expectation was for local civil governments to have a partiality towards Christianity and promote it, contrary to the notion of a complete separation between church and state at the time of the United States' establishment.Pastor Aldo highlights historical calls from Presbyterians in Ireland, Scotland, and England for the end of prelacy, all of whom confess the lordship of Jesus through Presbyterian polity. The discussion then moves into a review of various sections of the WCF and the larger catechism as they relate to Christendom and theocracy, touching on topics like Sabbatarianism, oaths, the role of the civil magistrate, just war, kings and queens as nursing father and mother, the distinction between the moral law and the natural law, George Gillespie's view of Civil Law in the Old Testament, covenant curses on nations, the magistrate's responsibility for the enforcement of the first table of the law, disapproval and opposition to false religion in one's place of calling, toleration of false religion, and prayers for removing atheism and idolatry.Tune in to this thought-provoking episode as Pastor Aldo and Rev. Dr. Glaser explore the historical and theological nuances surrounding these significant revisions in the American version of the Westminster Confession of Faith. Debunking Dever's Baptist Claims

In this episode, Pastor Aldo interacts with a video of a panel discussion that took place in September 2022 at 9Marks at Southeastern, titled "A Conference about the church, for the church." The focus of our discussion is Mark Dever, one of the panel participants, and his Baptist claims.Pastor Aldo presents a compelling argument challenging the notion that Baptism and Regeneration occur simultaneously. Drawing reference from WCF Chapter 28, sections 5 and 6, he emphasizes the separation of church membership, baptism, and regeneration as distinct events with different timing for individuals. Additionally, he explores the concept of inward and outward expressions of faith, highlighting the possibility of external participation in church rituals without internal regeneration.Dever counters with the argument that Congregationalism is essential for preserving orthodoxy and the Gospel. Pastor Aldo contrasts Episcopacy, where one speaks for the many, with Presbyterianism, where the many speak collectively in three concentric spheres: the local church, the regional church, and the general assembly. Pastor Aldo further explores the three types of polity: Episcopacy, Congregationalism, and Presbyterianism, clarifying the distinctions between them. He also highlights the departure of the PCUSA from Presbyterian polity and its descent into heresy. The discussion then shifts towards the implications of baptizing uneducated or untrained adults, with Pastor Aldo arguing that it can lead to a loss of orthodoxy. He questions whether Congregationalism is the solution, using the example of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC), where a wide range of expressions, including Dispensationalism, Arminianism, Prosperity gospel, and Charismatics, coexist within the same denomination. He raises the question of whether congregationalism can adequately address such diversity. The interaction continues touching on other claims made. Reformed Does Not Mean Head Coverings

In this episode of Kingdom Polemics, Pastor Aldo Leon delves into the ongoing conversations surrounding the requirement for women to wear head coverings during worship. He provides a unique perspective on this topic, examining various viewpoints and analyzing relevant scriptures, particularly focusing on 1 Corinthians. Pastor Aldo addresses three prevailing views on head coverings: the cultural insignificance perspective, the belief in head coverings as a creation ordinance and part of the Regulative Principle of Worship (RPW), and the view that head coverings are a cultural expression of a creational principle. Throughout the discussion, Pastor Aldo explores key themes such as tradition, the creation ordinance, customs of a nation, the meaning of covered heads in Biblical Israel, cessationism, women's natural head coverings, and angels in worship. Following these thoughts and remarks, Pastor Aldo highlights some important considerations and takeaways. He emphasizes that individuals whose consciences do not lead them to practice head coverings need not worry or disregard the topic. The broader conversation should include discussions on hairstyles, clothing, jobs, bodies, and the arbitrary nature of gender norms. For those who do practice head coverings, caution is advised, ensuring a genuine understanding of the practice and refraining from using threats. It is crucial to avoid transforming head coverings into a confessionalized movement or imposing them as binding requirements for biblical ethics. Furthermore, Pastor Aldo notes that head coverings did not play a central role in the reformations or fall within specific sections of worship. For background on this issue, consider the following video by Pastor Gavin Beers of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church (Burlington, NC) which argues for the use of head coverings: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8FGFgddoes. The Case for RPW with Instruments

In this solo episode, Pastor Aldo Leon presents a compelling case for the inclusion of instruments in worship based on the regulative principle of worship (RPW). Williamson, entitled, "Instrumental Music in Worship: Commanded or Not Commanded?," found here: https://www.westminsterconfession.org/resources/worship/instrumental-music-in-worship-commanded-or-not-commanded/Biblical Justification for Instruments in Worship:- Psalm 150: Command to use instruments without negation.- Davidic Revelation: Instruments commanded from David to Solomon.- Instruments used for prophecy, praise, sacrifice, and ceremony.Instruments Beyond the Mosaic Ceremonial Law:- Instruments under the Davidic Administration of Grace.- Distinction between ceremonial system and instruments.- Continuity with the eschatological temple.Counterarguments Addressed:- Sacrificial context and the role of instruments.- Psalms beyond Israel's worship.- Typological elements and the New Testament revelation.- Second Temple Judaism's avoidance of instruments in Worship.Significance of Instruments in Worship:- Accompanying the ministry of the Word.- Enhancing the celebratory nature of the gospel.- The general principle of instruments in worship. In this episode, there are a number of mentions of the Regulative Principle of Worship (or RPW). Welcome to Kingdom Polemics, where we engage in thought-provoking discussions about the complexities of Christ's nature. In today's episode, we delve into the question: What is the issue with a Christ characterized solely by gentleness and humility? While there is nothing inherently wrong with these attributes, the problem arises when they are exclusively emphasized, overlooking the broader picture of Jesus Christ.Pastor Aldo challenges the prevailing emphasis on Christ's humiliation over his exaltation. By prioritizing his humble nature, we risk creating an image of an effeminate Christ, neglecting the fullness of Christ as our mighty King. Pastor Aldo reminds us that Christ is not only the gentle Lamb but also the victorious conqueror who triumphed over death, and as king sitting on His throne, He is currently ruling this present world.Furthermore, Pastor Aldo presents an argument connecting this singular focus on Christ's humiliation to the feminization of the church and the promotion of egalitarianism. He suggests that by embracing a humiliated view of Christ, the church inadvertently fosters a climate that blurs gender roles, leading to the erosion of masculinity. This erosion, according to Pastor Aldo, can potentially contribute to the emergence of Side B homosexuality and the appointment of women to positions designated for men, contrary to God's intended order. This enlightening talk was delivered by Pastor Aldo as a side-session at the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (PCA) in June 2023. The Bible vs Russell Moore's Take on Uganda

Senator Ted Cruz is facing criticism on social media platforms for his progressive stance on homosexuality in Uganda. The focus of the current debate lies in a recently passed law in Uganda, which not only criminalizes homosexuality but also imposes the death penalty for specific offenses. Critics argue that Cruz's opposition to the law is in conflict with certain interpretations of biblical teachings. Russell Moore citing the Cruz Twitter storm in a recent article in Christianity Today (https://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2023/may-web-only/uganda-anti-lgbtq-ted-cruz-russell-moore-biblical-sin-crime.html), provides his view which also condemns the Ugandan law, stating that it is authoritarianism, and that it "demonstrates not a commitment to the Bible's authority but a rejection of it. ...don't for a minute call it Christian."In this episode of Kingdom Polemics, Pastor Aldo Leon interacts onscreen with both the Ted Cruz Tweet and the Russell Moore article refuting Moore's position in detail, providing Biblical evidence as to why the magistrate, serving as Deacon to the Church has every right to establish laws according to God's moral law as revealed in the Bible and that it is, in fact absolutely Christian.Russell D. Moore is a prominent American evangelical theologian, ethicist, and author. He served as the president of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC) of the Southern Baptist Convention from 2013 to 2021. Moore is known for his thoughtful and compassionate approach to addressing cultural and ethical issues from a Christian perspective. Furthermore, she emphasizes the need for us to love our enemies enough to lovingly share the truth.During this teaching, Rosaria fearlessly confronts prevalent falsehoods on various topics, including:Homosexuality: She asserts that there is no ontological foundation for a homosexual identity and challenges the notion of Side-A/Side-B Christianity, that it cannot exist, urging listeners to explore a biblical perspective.Male/Female Binary: Rosaria affirms that we are uniquely created in God's image as distinctly male or distinctly female, rejecting the idea of interchangeability or personal choice in gender identity.Feminism: She exposes the false promises of feminism that have often led to a form of enslavement, advocating for a biblical understanding of gender roles and true empowerment.Transgenderism: Rosaria contends that the rise of transgenderism and genital mutilation stems from Gnosticism, not science, emphasizing the importance of discerning between cultural trends and objective truth.Modesty and Purity: She highlights the relevance of modesty and purity, dispelling the misconception that these concepts are outdated and irrelevant in today's culture.Additionally, Rosaria addresses "Big Eva," noting how some segments of the evangelical community have compromised biblical truth in favor of societal acceptance. Baptist Spirituality via G3 Ministries

Join Pastor Aldo in this thought-provoking episode as he dives into the controversial topic of Christian Nationalism. There is increased awareness, discussion and controversy about this trending topic due to post-millennial authors publishing historic stances about the role of the civil magistrate in God's kingdom and books such as Stephen Wolfe's "The Case for Christian Nationalism". In this episode, Pastor Aldo provides his perspective on the topic, interacting with a video published by the G3 ( https://youtu.be/iIPKSTONfg8 ), which presents an opposing Baptist view on Christian Nationalism. Below is a sampling of some of the content. The G3 argues that there is no biblical support for Christian Nationalism which they define as the rebuilding of Christendom or establishing Christianity as the official religion of a nation. However, Pastor Aldo challenges this view, citing various biblical references from both the Old and New Testaments that support the idea of Christian Nationalism from a post-millennial perspective. Pastor Aldo illuminates Isa 19:18; Rev 1; Ps 2; Rev 21:22; Isa 60:10; Ps 72:8; Isa 42; The Lord's Prayer; and many more citations in this episode. The G3 also asserts that there should be a separation between the civil and spiritual realms with the government ruling the external actions of the soul, and the church guiding the spiritual state of men. However, Pastor Aldo argues that this separation is unattainable and a mere fantasy. He also discusses how the whole moral law applies for the restraint of evil, and that the civil magistrate has a servant role as deacon in restraining evil in this age. While Pastor Aldo disagrees with the G3 on several points, he agrees that the Wolfe nationalists and the theonomist nationalists offer a dangerous kind of nationalism that can lead to fascism. Pastor Aldo states that the position against Christian Nationalism is weak, it's not biblically nor confessionally tenable, it is a novelty that he believes has no place in the legitimate conversation about what is comprehensive Christianity.Don't miss this insightful episode on Christian Nationalism.
