Ep 361South Cox (Stalker Stickbows)

E

On a stellar episode today Aron and Frank are joined by the great South Cox, they dive right many topics. You won't want to miss this information packed episode with one of the pioneers of shooting and making traditional bows! South Cox’s interest in archery started at the age of five when he found an old wood recurve under a neighbor’s house. Despite having no mentor and growing up in a vegetarian family during his younger years, the instincts of the hunter ran deep. At 16, he shot his first deer with a bow—cementing a lifetime commitment to the sport. In 2007, with 20 years of professional woodworking experience, South took over Stalker Recurves, reviving a company that had been dormant for the better part of a decade. Combining both of his passions; a profound love of woodworking and archery, he enthusiastically dove into the new venture. His keen eye for detail and diligent work ethic can easily be recognized in the artistic changes, additions and technical advances in the bow lines. In 1989, South’s first bowhunting article was published, spawning a new career that would eventually have him published in a half dozen different archery magazines, contributing to a couple of bowhunting books and earning him a position as Field Editor of Eastmans’ Bowhunting Journal, a position that he still maintains. In 2012, with the blessing of his wonderful wife, Kyri, after 25 years in construction, South decided to “retire” and take up bow building full time. Between writing and bow building, he is now fully immersed in the hunting industry—truly “living the dream!” Did you like this episode? Ep 354Eddie Gallagher

E

Eddie Gallagher joined the Navy at age 19. All he wanted to do was fight for his country and become a United States Navy SEAL. For almost 20 years, he did both (15 of those years in the SEAL Teams), earning a stellar reputation along the way. Eddie deployed 8 times, including to war zones in Africa, Iraq, and Afghanistan. In 2014, Chief Gallagher was named the Sailor of the Quarter and then Sailor of the Year for NSW Group One (all West coast-based SEALs). During his career, Eddie was awarded 2 Bronze Stars with V for Valor, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Presidential Unit Citation, 2 Navy Commendation Medals, 3 Navy and Marine Corp Achievement Medals—1 with V for Valor and 5 Good Conduct Awards. On September 11, 2018, Chief (SEAL) Eddie Gallagher was suddenly arrested at the medical facility where he was receiving treatment for traumatic brain injuries. He was taken to a military brig and held in solitary confinement without being told what he had been arrested for or how long he would be there. Eddie would spend nine months in prison largely being denied medical treatment, access to legal counsel, and regular visits. His family was terrorized by the government while the press vilified him as a monster. Even after a jury of his peers found him innocent of murdering an ISIS fighter, there still exists a perception that Chief Gallagher got away with murder and was pardoned by President Trump. Neither are true. Go check out his book "The Man in the Arena" Did you like this episode?
