This week we're unpacking one of Carie Ann's most personal Disney experiences, 1998's Mulan. Ross struggles frequently with this film as one that was not marketed towards him, but was very familar with the familial expectations surrounding gender norms. Carie expresses distaste with the character of Mushu in her adult life, as well as the valuable take-away that no one person will ever fit super snugly into the binary boxes of gender norms. The siblings remark on what it means to be a credit to your own family, and also how you will never fit into the binary boxes society has set up....
