The Working Genius Podcast with Patrick Lencioni - In the Grip

What does your Working Genius look like when you're under stress, and would you even recognize it in yourself?

In episode 110 of the Working Genius Podcast, Pat Lencioni, Cody Thompson, and Matt Lynch explore what happens to each of the six Working Genius types when they're under stress, a state they call being "in the grip." Walking through Wonder, Invention, Discernment, Galvanizing, Enablement, and Tenacity letter by letter, the team uncovers how each type's greatest strengths can become their most challenging behaviors when unregulated. The conversation closes with a practical and compassionate framework for extending grace to teammates in the grip, recognizing that what looks like a flaw may simply be a strength operating under too much pressure.

Topics explored in this episode:

Pat, Cody, and Matt introduce "in the grip" — what each Working Genius type looks like when strengths become distorted under stress.

The team explores the Wonder type, revealing how natural curiosity can spiral into analysis paralysis, endless questioning, and loss of direction.

(00:00:03) Wonder in the Grip

Pat, Cody, and Matt introduce "in the grip,” what each Working Genius type looks like when strengths become distorted under stress.

The team explores the Wonder type, revealing how natural curiosity can spiral into analysis paralysis, endless questioning, and loss of direction.

(00:05:15) ADHD, Procrastination, and Invention in the Grip

Pat connects Wonder under stress to procrastination and ADHD misdiagnosis.

The team turns to Invention, describing how the drive to generate ideas becomes chaotic under stress.

(00:09:46) Discernment and Galvanizing Under Pressure

The group unpacks Discernment in the grip, how the healthy instinct to evaluate ideas can tip into hypercriticism, cynicism, and judgment under stress.

They move to Galvanizing, exploring how the drive to inspire movement can turn into pushiness and impatience when stress takes hold.

(00:15:41) Enablement and Tenacity When Unregulated

The team explores Enablement in the grip, how the instinct to help can lead to overcommitment, exhaustion, and quiet resentment when the enabler's own needs go unmet.

They turn to Tenacity, noting how discipline and follow-through can slide into rigidity, isolation, and frustration with those perceived as lazy or uncommitted.

(00:20:28) Applying This to Teams, Pairings, and Closing

Pat, Cody, and Matt explore how genius pairs stop working together under stress, and how leaders can use this framework to start grace-filled conversations with struggling team members.

This episode of The Working Genius Podcast with Patrick Lencioni is brought to you by The Table Group: https://www.tablegroup.com. The High Note with Tauren Wells - Ep 46: Faith in Motion with Tauren Wells & Pastor Victoria Osteen
How do you get unstuck in life? In this episode of The High Note, Tauren talks with Pastor Victoria Osteen about the insights revealed in her latest book Graced to Go, which teaches how to use God’s grace as an empowering force to overcome challenges. Together they discuss how to draw inspiration from Biblical narratives, how to move forward in grace through rejection, how Pastor Osteen overcame her own fear of speaking in church, and the strategic way that she and her husband Pastor Joel Osteen set the tone for their lives through a simple daily declaration. If you are feeling stuck, get ready for an enlightening conversation that will help you realign your confidence in God by shifting your focus away from perceived lack and onto how He has already equipped you to be victorious.

Theology of Music - One Paradigm for Choosing Corporate Worship Songs with Mike O'Brien

I’ve been looking forward to this episode for a while now. I’ve been following Mike O’Brien with Three Streams Worship Training on Instagram for a few years, and I’ve always appreciated his biblical and practical advice for worship leaders. In our conversation, Mike and I discuss some of the finer details of leading worship, especially the importance of understanding the context in which we lead, thoughtful song selection, and creating a balanced worship experience that serves a diverse congregation. In addition to things that should be considered when planning worship songs for our churches, we talk about the need for worship leaders to be flexible, responsive, and focused on serving our communities through musical worship. My prayer is that this episode encourages worship leaders to think about how they design and lead their congregations in worship. Follow Mike on Instagram @mikeoworship. Real Talk with Rachael Podcast - Talk Therapy: Process & Pray 2025 - Prophetic Vision for Your Future

Welcome to Real Talk with Rachael Gilbert! We're continuing our annual Process & Pray series. Last week, we looked back at 2025 and processed both the hard and the good. If you missed that episode, you'll want to start there.

Today, we turn our hearts toward the future. While there is a time to look back, looking back with longing can keep us stuck. Remember Lot's wife (Luke 17:32). God invites us to let go so we can move forward in faith.

A powerful way to move forward is to ask Him for vision. We may not get the whole picture, but He always gives the next step.

Process & Pray

● What am I longing for in the past that I need to let go of?
● What regrets do I need to release?
● What vision is God giving me for 2026?
● Jesus, what bold prayers do You want me to pray?
● What word are You speaking over my year?
● What verses do You want me to cling to in 2026?

Resource

Still need a Christmas gift? My book Image Restored makes a meaningful one. Grab it at imagerestoredbook.com. And don't forget to join my monthly JOYmail newsletter so you don't miss exciting updates coming to the podcast in 2026.

Can I Laugh On Your Shoulder? - #441 - An announcement...

Well friends, today's episode is going to be a bit different!

After nine years of weekly episodes, I've made the decision to take a break from the show for a little bit. This isn't something I've taken lightly- it's something I've been praying about, wrestling with, and reflecting on for months. And while it's hard to hit pause on something I love so much, I know it's the right time.

With my daughter heading into middle school, my son starting fourth grade, my first year of seminary coming to a close, and my 40th birthday around the corner (!), life has been beautifully full. In the midst of it all, I've sensed God gently inviting me to slow down, create margin, and make space to truly listen to His leading.

I'm so grateful for each of you who've tuned in, reached out, laughed, cried, and grown with me over the years. Thank you for letting me show up as I am. This certainly isn't goodbye, just ta-ta for now. I'll see you again this fall- refreshed, renewed, and ready for what's next!

FEATURED QUOTES

"I just am so grateful that God has given me this space to be able to have conversations with incredible people that I would never have had the opportunity to talk to otherwise."

"I'm just really hoping that God gives me clarity and vision for what to do and where to take this show next."
