The Minab death toll has been reported as at least 115 killed, with at least 45 reported wounded. Those numbers matter because they are the harm made countable, and because the count only rises as rubble is cleared and missing children are accounted for. The other fact that sits alongside those figures is the location: a girls’ elementary school has been one of the sites hit in the opening wave, as if a school is as big a threat to Israeli interests as a missile silo. Trump has dressed the operation up in the oldest clothes in the cupboard, the same ones every White House administration reaches for when it wants violence to sound like responsibility.
