John Bond was a freshman quarterback for Mississippi State on the day they beat Alabama 6-3 in 1980. It ended a 20-plus game winning streak for the Crimson Tide.
Bond — who started under center for MSU from 1980 through 1983 — remembers being recruited by Paul "Bear" Bryant in his home just eight months or so before the game. He also remembers getting a hug from the Bear during his postgame visit to the Bulldogs' locker room.
