In the wake of the horrific Supreme Court opinion granting presidents immunity for committing democracy-busting crimes against the American people, Jack Smith decided to seize the initiative. Rather than waiting until the litigation before Judge Tanya Chukka to sort out the implications of the new Supreme Court ruling, Smith went before a new grand jury, and presented only evidence of Trump's unofficial acts that violated the law - removing from the case Trump's acts that could have run afoul of the Supreme Court ruling - and asked the grand jury to vote out a new indictment.
The good news on the accountability front is that even removing evidence of Trump's "official presidential acts" from the case, the grand jury STILL concluded that there was ample evidence to indict Trump on the same four felonies that appeared in the original indictment.
