In this episode, Lauren and Teia explore the long-standing issue of racism in the non-profit, humanitarian, and development sectors. Despite the noble missions of these organizations, many have been found to harbor toxic and racist cultures that harm the communities they aim to serve. Why has it taken so long for these issues to come to light? Why has there been a lack of action to address this problem? These are the questions Lauren and Teia will be answering as they delve into the history of racism in the sector and the reasons why it has remained largely unacknowledged. They will also be examining recent reports and studies that shed light on the extent of the problem and its impact on the sector. From the underrepresentation of people of color in leadership positions to a lack of cultural competence in non-profits, they will discuss the challenges that must be overcome to create a more inclusive and equitable work environment
