In this episode we’re talking about how Louisiana just pulled the plug on a $3 billion coastal restoration project that was supposed to be the crown jewel of its climate resilience plan—funded by BP oil spill money, no less. The Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion was set to rebuild vanishing wetlands, but Gov. Jeff Landry said “nope,” citing seafood, culture, and sticker shock. Critics called it a science-backed lifeline; Landry called it a freshwater fiasco. Now, the state might have to cough up hundreds of millions already spent, and conservationists are left wondering if Louisiana’s coastal future is being traded for oysters and politics.
